I was just wondering if anyone here has tried chiropractic care for your childs reflux? I have been finding internet links that suggest a good turn out with this. I took my son to the chiropractor 3 days ago to have a gentle adjustment and we had the best couple of days we've had since he was born. He started showing some symptoms today so I took him back. Fed him his bottle in the office afterward and instead of writhing in pain after 2 burps he fell asleep as soon as I put him in the carseat. 3 hours later he is still sleeping peacefully. For the first time over the last few days we have been able to hold him and he'd curl up and sleep on our shoulder. He even slept in his bassinet till 4 am. Before he was writhing constantly all day and night no matter what we did to console him sleep for us both was elusive. He was born by c-section and they weren't gentle. His face was very swollen and his ear was bruised after they got him out. He's been screaming and miserable for the last 2 months even with meds. and this is the best relief we've gotten yet. There are 5 nerves in the spine that run the GI tract, plus the phrenic nerve that runs the diaphram is in the cervical spine (hiccups). He's only had hiccups twice since his treatment and before they were severe and so frequent. He still spits up some but it's improved. I haven't heard the audible reflux in days. He slept throught the first treatment the chiropractor was so gentle and today he fussed just a little cause he was hungry. I just thought I'd see if anyone else has tried this approach and also wanted to pass the information along.

Yes, we go to a chiropractor. He adjusts Jack alot.
At first it was once a week, then after he found that he was setting easier it moved to twice a month, now we are at once a month. I have found that it has made a big difference for us.
Also, I have our ped telling us that we have an ear infection, I go to the chiro and he tells me that he doesn't think it's infected, but just in case he adjusts his neck and all is well.
I am a firm believer. :smt036

I am too. Also made my husband a believer. His dad is an old football coach and chiropractors are taboo but the change in Joey is so dramatic it can't be denied.

Yes we did, and I can totally recommend it (see my post under Introductions today). Our first chiropractor was good and made some definite improvement. However it wasn't until we took Sam (13mths) to a chiropractic pediatrician (a chiro who specialises in children's health) who really knew what he was doing, did it make a big difference.

I can also recommend an osteopath for similar reasons. They are slightly different to chiropractors because they focus more on the whole body, muscles etc, and not just spine. We found both to be very helpful and have seen a HUGE improvement in just three weeks.

We discovered much of Sam's reflux was caused by two things: being a large baby (9lbs 5oz) and not having much room to move while I was pregnant with him, putting a lot of pressure on his neck; and he had a difficult birth with his shoulders squashed to fit and, as he was posterior he was twisted and yanked out causing all sorts of neck & muscle trauma. Not that we knew any of that then.

It makes you realise how fragile babies are during pregnancy & birth and wonder how many others have suffered pain, feeding difficulties, reflux etc as a result of nerve trauma?

I just read your other post in introductions. I am thinking about taking Ava for adjustment. She's been seen by a regular chiro, not the one that specialises in kids and he sort of massaged her spine with applying pressure. Ii am so afraid letting them adjust her tho. How did you guys get past that fear????? And do they actually crack theri necks and spines as if they would ours????

As they are smaller, our chiropractor just used fingertip pressure. Very gentle. The reason it was easy for me to get past my fear is because a year ago I herniated a disk in my back and after all the therapy and doctors my chiropractor was the only one who got me sitting and standing comfortably in just 3 visits with remarkable improvement after 1. To begin with I just asked him if he would be comfortable with it and he said they have brought babies from other states to him for the same thing. He did adjust his neck but in such a gentle smooth motion Joey didn't even flinch. No twisting mind you. He didn't twist on him even once. And today there is still improvement in how Joey is feeling. I am no longer ready to tear my hair out. And my dh no longer thinks Joey hates him.

I need to make an appointment for myself and I think I'll see if I can find a chiropractor who will treat Lily, too. I heart chiropractors.

I love mine too!! The first time I took kelton he sleep as soon as we left in his Car seat (Which mind u he never does) and when i put him to bed he sleept from 4 when we left till 830. The longest sleep hes ever had!!

I still take kelton every week since hes been born he was doing really good we where going twice a week but they beginning of this month he seemed to fall backwards.. She told me the more babies reflux the eaiser it is for them to get out of line!(He also had a really bad birth expereince too) But i am a faithful to it and am glade i started taking him..
