KC is on albuterol and it doesn't seem to be working. We started with the inhaler with the areochamber(failed) and now we are using the nebulizer. I am doing it every 4-6 hours as needed b/c he has been fighting this cold he has had since he got his flu shot and I don't know if I need to give it alittle more time or not. So what do you use and how has it been working for your little one. When Brianna was diagnosed at the age of two we started the same way and the albuterol has worked but with KC it doesn't seem to work. I am hoping I need to give it some more time and that it will work eventually but he sounds horrible.

Iain is on flovent and ventolin, no neb here. I know Lesley gives Catherine these treatments and I am wracking my brain here as there are a few more on the site who do use this, too, but I can not think of who right now.

Sorry, Lauren. I can not be of help here. The only thing I can offer is that giving a steroid takes time to take effect. It is a long term thing and a preventative measure. We always increase the flovent when Iain is chesty, so maybe you need to increase? I do not know, but it is a thought? Again, I do not use a nebulizer.

Lauren, we just got put on a combo. of albuterol and pulmicort and let me tell you, WOW, Jack is not coughing at all anymore.
Well, except for last weekend, but we were in a different environment and I forgot his neb.
The pulmicort has done wonders for us.

Xopenex (which is new and improved albuterol) and Pulmicort here as needed. Pulmicort is a long-term med so you may not see any benefits for a week or two. Xopenex should help immediately, but because it loosens the secretions (and consequently increases coughing), the child may appear to get worse for a few days before he or she shows improvement. Albuterol will have the same effect.

Xopenex and Pulmicort as needed here too. We started out with Albuterol but Connor got really fussy and jittery on it so we switched to Xopenex. It's more $$$ but it made a big difference for us.

Same here for Sam, but we just switched to flovent from the pulmicort. It is so much easier to administer. He still hates it, and screams through the entire time, but with the flovent and spacer it is so much easier and much less time. We use the xoponex or albuteral as needed (via neb) when he is having a hard time breathing, but the flovent is everyday.

Rylie started off on Albuterol as needed.......we went back and forth with the nebulizer and chamber. She is now only on the chamber with 110 mcg Flovent 2 times a day and Albuterol as needed. But what I have noticed with the nebulizer is that when she is sick and coughing a lot, it seems to work better than the chamber......I do not know if it is my imagination, but it has seemed to make a big difference. I hope that this helps? I really think that the method of treatment best for the child depends on them....it really seems like everyone is different when it comes to the distribution of meds.....does that make sense?
