Hello! Thanks in advance for looking at my question, and also congrats on your success with the school board! My little one is almost 8 months old. He can roll from his tummy to back, but would rather scream and cry and have you do it for him. I have never seen him go from back to tummy. He will turn on his side, and I think he's going to finally do it, but he doesn't. He is much more content to sit up and play...really has no desire to be supine! We just recently took the wedge and "nest" out of his crib, so it's not like he could practice in there. Should I just give him more time, or should I worry??? Thanks!!

Hi Jessica:
If you go by the books, Nathan should be able to roll over both ways by eight months. However, I do not know how much he weighs. Sometimes our GERD babies are rather "healthy," and sometimes their weight and decreased muscle tone can get in the way of attaining developmental milestones. Most GERD babies, not all, dislike being in a supine (on the back) position. Although this is the preferred position for the prevention of SIDS, it is the worse position for gastric emptying because of where the gastric inlet is positioned. In addition, when a baby is horizontal, the reflux is more prone to come up. Our little ones much prefer to be upright for these reasons.
I would give Nathan a little more time. What you can do is place him on his back on an incline. Flex or bend one knee up to his waist gently and cross it over to the opposite hip to help facilitate turning over from back to front. Try this to both sides and do it over and over until Nathan does it on his own. It sounds like Nathan is almost there. You are doing a super job...keep up the good work Jessica! Happy holidays to you and your family.
