Dear GERD Moms:

Thank you so much for all of your support, well wishes, and kind thoughts :) We did it!!!!!! The hubby and I took over the meeting with our agenda and told the school district how our son was going to receive his special education services. We truly enjoyed watching the jaws of all the administrators hit the ground...lol. It is all about standing up for what you believe in. We were not about to let our little guy fall through the cracks.

If you are ever bored (I'm sure that happens often!),Google my name with the RES-Q Infant Wedge. You will find an article online called "The Other Side" with OT Advance, a national occupational therapy magazine. It tells the short version about how Drew almost died from liver failure at 8 months of age before he was diagnosed with Tyrosinemia Type 1, a rare metabolic disease. It will help you understand what my husband and I have been through and why keeping Drew in special education is so important.

Now I must get through the slumber party tomorrow night. It will be much easier now :)

Congratulations! I am so happy for you! It sure is empowering when you win a battle like that, especially one so very important. You are a great advocate for Drew.:smt041

Thank you for sharing your story with us. I know we never seem to have time to get bored around here, but we sure are interested in our community of members. I have bookmarked it and will take a look at it tomorrow.

hehe...you think a slumber party will be easier!!! I too have had my children have slumber parties...letting them stay up talking, while I had a margarita in my bed with the door closed helped me get a little sleep!!

Congrats on winning the battle with the school on the special ed....You are a remarkable woman!

:yahoo: Way to go Robynne! It is such a pain that you have to fight for what your child needs, but often that is the way it works. My nephew was born at 24 weeks and has CP. He is lucky becasue my sister is a social worker and knows her rights. She has had to fight every step of the way to get him the services he needs, because he is so high functions is many ways that his disabilities are not obvious.

Your son is lucky he got a mama who knows what is up! Now good luck with the party:hairpull:

The first thing you learn is if you don't fight for your child no one else will.

Kudos to you..I'm going to check out your article
