Hello ladies........well here we go again with Rylie and her asthma along with her refulx. It really feels like every holiday that I end up at the ER with Rylie. I have to say that when we walked in (other than everyine knows our name.....kind of like Cheers, you know) I jokingly said to the receptionist "You are open on Christmas, right?" She just laughed and nodded her head, yes.

We did go and see the ped pulmologist and he suggested that she take the sweat test to rule out Cystic Fibrosis......although he said that it very unlikely. Then he was telling me about the windpipe and how it is made of cartilidge and that her's could be just flappy.....which she would sooner or later grow out of it. And the only way to check that is to place a tube (small one) through her nose and down the windpipe.....which, of course she would be a sleep for. I am seriously thinking of having all these tests done just to rule out all of these issues. We just need to find out what is causing all of these asthma attacks.....he even said that she just maybe allergic to something too.

Well ladies....thank you for listening!!!

At least you have a sense of humour, Holly! That is what will get you through this.;-) I would rather see you here than at the hospital on Christmas Day, so I am going to make that request early on, ok?!

What tube and why would they do that? for testing of her esophagus? I can not recall what the term is exactly, but I do know that a floppy esophagus is not a good thing and they had better find out if that is what she has. Often with this, pockets of food and fluid can form and that is very dangerous. Believe me, I am bringing out a big rabbit foot to rub to make sure that Rylie does not have that. As they can not correct effectively with surgery as the esophagus does not heal properly and they can really only wait for her to grow and stretch it out. Has she had any problems that would seriously make them focus on such a thing? It is not something to play around with, that is for certain.

Do not sweat the sweat test. It is an easy one and gives plenty of peace of mind for parents to rule that one out. It is apparently an absolute one according to our testing hospital and can be accurate almost from birth on.

Do let us know how it is going. I can not say how sorry I am that you spent Thanksgiving in the hospital. That stinks.:sad5:

It's always good to be on a first-name basis with the staff at the urgent care or ER! :toothy10:

I'm glad you're looking forward to the holidays. I kind of am as well for the first time in years.
