View Full Version : Look what I found!!!! Minnie 11-20-2006, 12:35 PM http://www.healthcentral.com/video/408/2197/Relax_The_Stomach_With_Botox.html AvasMommy 11-20-2006, 08:50 PM Hey, that sounds promising!!! Minnie 11-20-2006, 08:59 PM Have you heard of it before? I was looking up something and came across a post somewhere on accident and this lady was saying that her 4 year old son was getting a Botox shot in his stomach. What?! He was J tube feed and still vomiting and they were saying that this might help. Unfortunately it wasn't a busy board and she never wrote back, and only got one reply. I'm so curious to know if it helped him. I was thinking of Shae lynn of course. I did a search "Botox for vomiting" and you wouldn't believe all the stuff that came up about DGE. Very interesting Christine 11-20-2006, 09:03 PM Wow - that sounds promising. It seems like they try Botox for everything. A lady I work with has Parksinsons, and she has injections in her neck to keep her head from shaking. Leigh 11-20-2006, 09:41 PM I can not get over what they will use botox for these days. I must say that I would have to research that extremely well before even remotely considering it for a child or even myself. It seems to be a new treatment and who knows? Might be one to watch. Thanks, Minnie. It was a new one for me. Shaes Grammy 11-20-2006, 10:07 PM On that tape they show adults only, right? But, Minnie, you say you read about the child also? So if you get the Botox in the stomach, will it help your wrinkly face? (well my wrinkly face?) Seriously, are there different types of Botox? To Minnie, the Google Queen...:notworth: Leigh 11-20-2006, 10:10 PM I believe that botox is botox and that there are not different kinds. My take on it is that it affects different areas depending on where it is injected. I could be way off base here, though. Shaes Grammy 11-20-2006, 10:15 PM Interesting and I assume extremely expensive. Right now isn't it consider for cosmetic purposes only and therefore, maybe insurance would not cover it? anna1 11-20-2006, 10:16 PM That is very interesting. I know someone that gets botox shots in her scalp for migraines. Weird...wonder what the heck is in that stuff.. Minnie 11-20-2006, 10:18 PM Well, Everything I read was geared toward adults, but like I said that thread was about a 4 year old boy still vomiting and J tube fed. I really wish she would have posted back. http://www.cosmeticenhancementsforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3478&sid=21d9eec343f28d0879edd7e3fa379615 They shot it into that valve at the bottom of your stomach to relax that muscle, and let the tummy empty. I'm not sure if there are different types. I think botox is botox and where ever they shoot it that area becomes temporarily paralyzed. Very cool guys! very cool Lena 11-21-2006, 12:46 PM I posted about that last month. http://www.infantrefluxdisease.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19562&highlight=botox Dh gets 'botox' shots in his back for slipped disks. Jen S 11-21-2006, 01:03 PM Interesting..........????????? Minnie 11-21-2006, 01:06 PM Oh WOW! and no one even replied? See how easy the good stuff can get lost around here?! We all just start talking at the same time. LOL I was very surprised to find a TON of websites with articles on it. I wonder if it could cause dumping syndrome? I mean if they paralyze it, then food will be going through too quickly, right Lena 11-21-2006, 01:11 PM My understanding is that it doesn't actually paralyze the muscle, just relaxes it. I don't know for sure but that's how it was explained to us for dh's back. Leigh 11-21-2006, 09:04 PM Is there any risk factors from the botox itself, Lena? I do not mean any from the injection, but from the med itself? I am curious about that. Lena 11-26-2006, 09:32 PM Is there any risk factors from the botox itself, Lena? I do not mean any from the injection, but from the med itself? I am curious about that. Not that I know of. The only thing we were warned about was temporary muscle weakness for dh's back. It's called Botulinum toxin injection therapy if you want to research it further. It's actually made from botulism bacteria. Oh and I wanted to add that it is temporary, lasting 3-4 months. mommytothree 12-20-2006, 08:08 AM We have considered this for Grace and I know a child who has it done.Dr.N at CHB does this and it can be very helpful to some children. In our case we decided against it because Dr.N says that Grace's problems are beyond this area and above this area and he felt that it would not be of really benefit to her,:sad3: It was one thing I kinda of held onto as maybe some help for her. The great thing about it is that the effects of it wear off in few months and if it causes dumping, then it does go away.Dr.N does this alot before he suggest a Pyloric Plasty....it's kinda like a trial to how the child will react to a PP. |
