View Full Version : Older refluxers chime in!
Leigh 11-18-2006, 12:21 PM Just wondering how many older refluxers we have here on the boards and how they are doing. ;)
This poll is multiple choice for parents of more than one refluxer.
Leigh 11-18-2006, 12:27 PM For my part, Iain is going to be 3 years old in February and is non- abating for reflux as yet, although he is MUCH better off than he was even last year. Curran is turning 5 at the end of this month and still has reflux, but it is better than it was, too. My eldest has some issues, but is not medicated for reflux. Overall, we know we have the long haul here for reflux, but have seen considerable improvement thanks to medication management and the knowledge and confidence gained from here.:party0049:
Ava is 9 mo old and is still going strong with reflux, altough it is nicely controlled by Prevacid. She is doing a lot better, not only with reflux, but also with her allergies. We successfully switched her from Neocate to Nutramigen.
We'll see, if she is continue to imrpove we'll attempt a wean off meds at 12 mo as well as onto whole milk.
Debbie 11-18-2006, 01:28 PM Jayden has been off Previcid for about 1 1/2 weeks and is doing some refluxing but we are watching to be sure it doesn't worsen....soon to try dairy:sign11: Eggs make him rashy but he loves them..poor little face gets all bumpy
Minnie 11-18-2006, 01:47 PM Eric is doing really crappy at the moment, due to the GI's brilliant idea of putting Eric on a high fat diet to help him gain. (Eye roll)
but I feel the good days coming. They're just around the corner.
Leigh 11-18-2006, 01:54 PM High fat diet, Minnie? Oh, that should do wonders for reflux... **eyeroll**
I forgot to state that Iain is now on 15 mg of prevacid in the morning and again at night for a total of 30 mg per day. We still have zantac in our arsenal if required for refluxy days or if he is not able to swallow prevacid, but instances of requiring it are few and far between I am happy to report.
Plus, Curran is being weaned right now from prevacid. **Shhhh**;-) I am not so sure it is going to work as he has turned into a first class belcher worthy of a first year university engineering student on a perpetual weekend bender.... Methinks prevacid will be back in his diet again soon.

Yeah, and he lost a pound while on it. LOL can't help but laugh at that one. Now he's on eating/drinking strike, and having a heck of a time swallowing, but he'll come back around. I'm already seeing some changes for the better.

That's awesome!

OMG! What a secret! I wish it was going more smoothly
AvasMommy 11-18-2006, 04:16 PM Ava is 18 mos old now, and I can finally say that her reflux is (almost) well managed and under control...LOL, but it took a fundo and a g-tube!
OwensMom 11-18-2006, 05:58 PM Owen is almost 19 months now and still has reflux as well. We actually put his dose back to 30mg's not even a month ago since he was gagging and choking on food so much. It's under control now and no more gagging or choking on food anymore.
sixdogssixcats 11-18-2006, 07:54 PM Catherine is 22mo and is fine for the most part during the day. She cries from reflux all night long. She's slept through the night -- completely without crying -- twice in her life.
Becky in NM 11-18-2006, 08:26 PM D just turned three and his reflux seems under control with his meds. If I stop his meds, he'll REALLY fight eating within three days. And of course he's not an eater anyway -- our huge, lingering reflux issue.
Bethany is now 2 and her reflux has flared with a vengeance after a period in which we thought things were really improving. *sigh* I feel like we're literally back where we started.
She started out as a puker, reverted to silent reflux, and is now puking like it's her job. She started out as a non-eater, improved to the point where she was taking a few ounces of solids per day, and is now a total non-solid eater/fights drinking her Neocate. She has no oral-motor deficiencies/problems and is able to eat/chew/swallow on her own; her food aversion is behavioral. She spent the first 15 months of her life not sleeping more than an hour at a clip, we got her sleeping, now she's up every couple of hours all night again. :banghead:
She's on 28.25 mg. Prilosec, 17g. Miralax, 1 T. Kondremul, 1.1 mL Pepcid, and as much Maalox as her little body can stand (She's refluxing a TON, esp. at night now). Neocate Jr. is our savior...as long as she drinks it!
Yeah...so we're still waiting for that "magic" age at which she'll outgrow this! :hairpull:
ConnorsMommy 11-18-2006, 09:12 PM Connor is almost 16 months and his reflux is still going strong. He has come a long way since the puking infant stage though and seems to be pretty well controlled with 30mg of Prevacid and Zantac twice a day. Now if we could just get him to start swallowing food!
Over 3... 39 months now. Acid is under control, every other aspect of her life is out of control.
