Emerson was diagnosed at the age of twelve weeks with stage four reflux, from there we were referred to a ped GI and started taking Axid and Reglan. His symptoms seemed to stay the same, he was projectile vomiting sometimes evenup to three hours after his feeds, from there the GI prescribed Prevacid which I chose to have compounded after consulting with my pharmsicst Jenny! He did better for quite a while until I started solids. Emerson is still spitting up formula but when he has baby food it is a hundred times worse? The ped and GI said well they reflux anything that goes down and that its fine!!! LOL I thought it was suppose to get better??? He has started refusing his bottles and only wanted the solids. This would be what he would eat for a day ----- 1 6oz bottle at 6am then at about 10am 4tablespoons and one jar of fruit, then at 5 he would eat another 2 jars of baby food and refuse the bottles I offered including his nightimt feeding!!!! I cut out the baby food and he has started taking in more formula, yet the ped said to feed him the solids but I would think the formula is more important? Does this sound like DGE and is there anything you would do since he is already on Reglan???????????????

You know? I remember Lena saying something about projectile vomiting having to do w/ Pyloric Stenosis (sp?) I'll PM her to take a look at this. My daughter had DGE, but never projectile vomited because of it. She did spit up constantly, but not projectile. I'll see what Lena says K?

Sounds like DGE especially since he isn't eating much and probably feels full. Maybe the reglan isn't doing the job??? My ds was just diagnosed after my suspicions. He also spits up 3-4 hrs after he eats and solids were worse. He is a silent refluxer, but once I started adding rice cereal I had noticed he would spit some up hours later undigested and then the sweet potatoes were a kicker, came up 3 1/2 hrs after he ate them undigested. Our GI just told us to take him off the solids as formula is more important nutrition wise and that we would start on gentler solids once we get his system digesting properly. Hope your ds is feeling better soon and that you get this sorted out...it's sooo frustrating trying to figure out what's going on their little bodies.

Well the upper GI ruled out Pyloric stynosis at least I'm pretty sure! SO I feel like it is DGE should the upper GI have told us he has DGE or do they have to look for it especially??Thanks Myrita and Anna for your support! More advise is Great anytime anyday! We have been on Uricholine also he got worse and threw up like crazy for like a week! Is there other meds for it or should I worry about having the diagnosis??

Not sure if the UGI is for diagnosis...I know they are checking for structural abnormalities, however when we took our ds for his UGI his stomach was still full 4 hrs after he ate...so they had to pump it and give him the barium. I asked the stupid dr. doing the xray if it was possible that is stomach was full due to DGE....and he said maybe...but his stomach is probably just "sleepy" this morning....gee is that a medical term...moran. Our new GI confirmed today after looking thru his file and talking to us about his reflux symptoms etc., that it is DGE. He wanted to put him on Reglan, he said it is the best med for it. But I was too nervous due to all the side effects I have read. So instead we are trying erythromycin....praying it works!

Thanks for your reply I'' ll talk to our GI on the 28th and I'll let you know what he said! Oh I never researched the side effects of reglan before hand so now it is kinda scary! Emerson has'nt shown any signs or symptoms that they talk about! Hope your meds work!

98% of the time projectile vomiting is caused by pyloric stenosis. The other 2% is poisoning, head trauma and very very rarely DGE. PS is almost always diagnosed between 2 weeks and 2 months. It's unheard of at your sons age. Projectile vomit shoots across the room splattering on the wall exorcist style leaving you screaming grabbing the phone to call 911.

His discomfort and lack of eating could be from DGE or it could be from the reflux too. My daughter went down hill after starting on solids.

I would talk to the GI about his symptoms and see if he will do further testing.

Thanks for your opinion ladies and I guess it is DGE and will ask the GI for more information and what to do? Emerson's projectile vomiting has'nt happened for a while, it just seems he is always spitting up and I mean alot! I wonder where does it come from and is there anything left in there? Hours later if you pick him up he is like the faucet that won't stop leaking!!!!!!!!! It actually keeps us from holding him sometimes , because he feels comfortable and does'nt spit up if he is in his swing!!!I'm guessing its from sloshing his belly around and pressure that gets exurted on his abdomen, while being held! Any thoughtS????????

Boy do I understand about the puking!! Emma still projectile vomits at 9 months. They don't believe she has DGE. She was also on REglan and it did nothing to help the vomits!

It could just be a part of the reflux, which is Emma's problem. Good luck!
