Have any of your kids had enlarged tonsils? Logan has had a couple bad ear/sinus infections where the docs said his tonsils were 'huge'. He can hardly breathe at night (the apnea is much more scary with snoring and snotring for breath). We have an appointment with a ENT (ears, nose and throat) doc and I think I'm hoping he says to take them out.
I can't help but think that they must have been huge before the infections and it sure makes sense that they might have affected his speech development...??
Doesn't it all seem related?
Reflux - affects tissues in mouth/sinus cavity - irritates tonsils and adenoids - apnea - waking - lack of sleep = developmental delays.
What do you thinK??

Makes sense to me. My daughter has chronic --and I mean non-stop -- sinus infections and is significantly speech delayed. She's also still a wobbly walker and I wonder if that's due to frequent fluid in her ears throwing off her equilibrium.

My oldest dd had huge tonsils....many cases of Strep throat and ear infections..at the age of 8 the dr's decided to remove them...what we didn't know until after the surgery is that with each bout of Strep...the tonsils leave scar tissue deeper into the throat. So she had actual holes in the throat that tunneled deep into the back of her throat. One other thing we never realized was that the tonsils were so large that they effected her ability to swollow without choking or gagging,& they prevented air from passing thru the larnyx properly which in turn made her voice differerent...before surgery she had a garbly sound and it was gone afterwards....we were really suprised by that...we have video of her birthday before and then some after so we can totally hear the difference. She never has had Strep since, she's 25 noNow when I think about all the info I know about GER now I am certain she was a reflux child..labled Colic/fussy/picky..you name anything but Reflux.....and suffered for years...and has stomach issues to this day...so Yes I belive they are related somehow.

My granddaughter had adenoids that were 3x the size of a normal adults. She had hers taken out when she was 2 1/2 yrs old. She had apnea (not very severe, but did stop for seconds), lots of snoring. She didn't have any developmental delays and slept wonderfully. She also had ger....

It does make sense. I wonder if there was ever a study done on that.

My daughter Brianna is going for surgery tomorrow to have hers removed and her adnoids. Her tonsils are three times the size of a normal adult. The opening to her throat is the size of a nickle.

I hope your daughter's surgery goes well and her recovery is quick. Did she ever have any developmental delays?
