Hey ladies, I was wondering for those of you with kiddos in feeding therapy, does your insurace cover it? Does anyone have any advice for me as far as trying to get it covered? Connor's Gi is going to have him evaluated at children's hospital, she already said he will qualify but when I had called our insurance before, they said they don't cover speech therapy unless there has been a stroke or something like that, but this is for feeding not speech. Anyway the guy was a moron. I need to call and see if it will be covered but was looking for some tips/advice and to see what others did. Thanks:D

Kim, ours was covered, I don't even remember what I had to do. I think that I called my insurance company and I had 10 visits a year covered, so my ped had to call and schedule it, to get it covered, I think. LOL

Whatever is not covered by your insurance may be covered by your state's early intervention program. All states have different programs so even if he receives therapy at the children's hospital they may be part of the EI program. Check with the hospital when they schedule, they should be able to refer you to the appropriate resource or they may have a sliding fee scale that will allow you to pay them directly based on your income if your insurance does not cover it.

Payton's is covered by California Early Start.

Thanks ladies, he was assessed by Az early intervention but denied therapy because he wasn't behind in any other area. Although I'm very happy that he's right where he should be in all other areas what about the fact that he won't swallow food??? Hopefully we'll get somewhere now that the hospital is getting involved.

Kara gets feeding therapy through our state's (NJ) early intervention program. It is totally independent of insurance and the cost is a sliding scale based on your income. Also, we go to a Children's Hospital for feeding therapy with a feeding team (SLP, OT, psych, dr. and nutritionist), every few months (they are VERY back-logged). We have Aetna Insurance and we just had to get a referral through our Ped and pay a copay. I am not sure if only a certain number of visits are covered though.
