Kyleigh has had a cough for about 2 months now. Sometimes it is more productive than other times and sometimes she vomits. When she is breathing she is so loud you can hear her across the room. It is always sounding like she is snoring whether she is asleep or not. I read a few things about laryngomalacia but I wondered if any of you with experience thinks that this might be that. Thanks in advance.

Laryngomalacia doesn't cause or make a cough. It just sounds like a congested nose, but no mucus is present and if you check with a mirror they are able to breath through both nostrils.
Laryngomalacia also can not be heard when they are breathing out only on inspiration.
Laryngomalacia improves when the baby is on their belly, and will worsen while on their back.
The babies cries sound normal.
Asthma Can also sound like congestion/or snore, but dryer, and there is almost always a wheeze. Asthma is chester and the cough is unproductive, kinda like a throat clearing.
If the congestion sounds like it's coming from her chest This doesn't necessarily mean asthma, but you should definitely get her checked to see if her lungs are nice and clear.
She could be aspirating refluxate into her lungs.
Read the link in my sig about Laryngomalacia (this may help you figure it all out)
Get her checked out. To me it sounds like she could be aspirating a bit.
When Eric aspirated (or I should say when I think he did) he would always have a cough like what you are describing for a few days, until he cleared it out. since she's had this cough for so long i'd get her lungs checked.

I coughed a real lot when my asthma was out of control. Now the asthma is controlled by meds and I don't cough.

Just wanted to add, my son has had a cough for 6 weeks. We are suspecting allergies/asthma, one or both. Ugh...
He is on Albuterol, through a breathing treatment, that has helped alot, for a short time, we have to do it 2times a day now, in the beginning it was 4.

Minnie, this thread helped. lol She makes the worst squeaks when she breathes in, but not all the time. I'm assuming it doesn't happen w/ every breath if it's lary....? (too long to write out each time)
I have an asthmatic cough, but at this age w/ reflux I would assume reflux. My cousin's ds has bad reflux and he coughs and they know he's aspirating b/c of that.

I agree w/ Minni on what Laryngomalcia symptoms are. Although, be careful of the breating test because many infants w/ Lary also have deviated septums so only one nostril could be working. The "mucousy" sound also comes from the throat not the chest. That's usually the first tell tale symptom of Lary. I would definately have your ped check her lungs. Good luck, mama.

Minnie - I thought that doctors don't even think about asthma until they are about 3 years old? I'm sure about this, it's just from memory of one of your posts. Check out this link.....Is this the Pharmaceutical companies way of changing that trend and selling their product?

WEll,
Eric's Pulm doctor wouldn't diagnose Eric with asthma. He said he wasn't comfortable diagnosing someone so young. He said we could try meds and see if they helped, but I opted not to. We are gonna go see an ENT next. I'm not convinced Eric has asthma. It seems different somehow, less....ummmm...asthma like LOL I just can't find the words.
I'm not sure what you were showing me with the link? What did you mean?
Myrita,
I didn't even think about deviated septums! You're right! Ooops!
and Lary IS higher up and not chesty. With Eric is sounded like nasal congestion(not chesty), and no squeak, or whistle (AKA stridor).
melony,
With Eric it happened every time he breathed in, sometimes quieter but always there. I don't know if this means that lary happens every time any baby with lary breaths in or not though. The thing is though the noise isn't hear when they breath out. It's purely inspiratory.
