View Full Version : Allergy meds..
Lindasmom 11-02-2006, 10:20 AM So, I talked to Linda-Maries doc today and told him about how her pulmanologist suggested the Singulair and he said to wait and see how she does over the fall/winter season which is fine, but shes still congested, rubbing her nose, etc. This could all be from a cold I guess..she is around her cousins everyday and right now, they are both (again) sick. So, should I just wait this out a bit longer or perhaps just try an over the counter allergy medicine to see if it makes any difference? :sad5:
Emily M 11-02-2006, 03:49 PM **sigh** I don't know. I am going through it too, how long has she been sick?
Jack has been this way for 5 weeks, we are on Singulair, the type they put him on is a pain in the butt. Simply because I'm supposed to mix it in applesauce or carrots, and quite frankly sometimes he just doesn't want to eat it all. KWIM? It also comes in something like a solutab which I'm going to see if we can get, but anyway, I don't know.
If I were you, I would put her on it and see if it clears it up. If it is a true allergy then it should.
Jack went to the chiro. today and he told me that if he had a cold, or "infection" that your body runs a fever. Jack has had this so long and no fever, he is suspecting allergy. Ugh..... So, I don't know. Guess I didn't help did I?! ;-)
eaglemansbaby1124 11-02-2006, 03:58 PM Well You could try the tylenol simply cough or stuffy nose. That souldn't hurt her. Brianna was diagnosed with sever asthma when she was two and that is really the only thing that she could use when she was younger. I don't kow what else tylenol makes qwith the simply meds you can check it out. I hope that helped. Or another thing my doc said we could use is robitussin. I hope I helped. Let me know if that helped.
Lindasmom 11-02-2006, 09:19 PM Lets see...she caught the first cold over 3 months ago. there would be a few days here and there where she ran a low grade fever..but she also cut her first 2 teeth during the course off all these colds and shes teething again :hairpull: Have you noticed any improvement since hes been on the Singulair or is the cough pretty much the same? What I wouldn't give to have a crystal ball so I could tell if it was allergies bothering her. Could just make an appointment with her doc and express my concerns (could do it over the phone too but maybe seeing him in person would be more effective).
Emily M 11-02-2006, 09:38 PM I know, I feel like I bug my doctor sooo much. We were just there and I got the "it's a cold" bit. WHATEVER. It is not a freaking cold. For 5 weeks??!!
I have seen the most improvement with the nebulizer. Or, the Singulair is finally kicking in, I don't know. It has been 2 weeks that he has been on that. It's hard to know. I hate the guessing game.
We went to the chiro. today and he listened to his lungs and said "clear" so, I don't know what to think, he did just have a breathing treatment though, so that could be why. :banghead:
ARGH....................... lol:hissyfit:
Sam's Mom 11-04-2006, 04:45 PM Just wanted to add that we had major issues with Sam rubbing his nose. We started Zyrtec, got rid of the cats and it got better but not great. We started a nasal spray--rhinocort--and he is soooooo much better. I know you are in my area, Sam has a great ped allergist from UM that was wonderful with him. PM me if you want her info.
hpaterniti 11-04-2006, 08:20 PM How long has Linda-Marie been not feeling well? The reason why I am asking is because this week Rylie's asthma had kicked into full gear and I took her to the ER and them today I took her to the peds and found out that she has a secondary infection (sinus). Her coughing seemed to be getting better, but her nose got worse and that is what the ped said is a sign of a secondary infection. I would call the peds if you feel that she is not getting better......that is why they get paid the big bucks!!!
Lindasmom 11-04-2006, 09:07 PM she was sick on and off for about 3 months; 2 months before starting the nebulizer and being in the hospital overnight with Reactive Airway Disease. shes now on 2 inhalors-Albuterol and Flovent and we use them with a spacer and thank God..she is much better. No wheezing for a few weeks now and her cough is much better. She was on an antibiotic, her doc thought she may have had a sinus infection as well, but that medicine made no difference. If she does indeed have allergies...I just don't get what she could be allergic to...we don't have any pets, we don't smoke, sure there is dust in the house..but whose house doesn't?!! If she contines with the nose rubbing, I will talk to her doc again and he is really nice and understanding so I'm sure he will start her on something.
Emily M 11-04-2006, 09:43 PM Honestly Shanna, it could be lots of things. I have an allergy book and I was amazed at the things that kids can be allergic to. I mean, anything at all.
And, it could be the outside allergies. Grr... I hate guessing, don't you?
We are still snotty and hacking, not as bad, but still at it. :hairpull:
hpaterniti 11-05-2006, 07:41 AM Shanna,
Both of my kids and I have Reactive Airway disease too........I have never met anyone else who has this. Whenever I mention this to anyone they look at me and say what is that. Anyways.......I feel for you, right now i am in the same position as you are.....except waiting to see if the antibiotics kick in. It is so hard to see them sick and going through what they are going through. I would say I would call the ped too to see what they thought about the whole thing. Please keep us updated!!!
Lindasmom 11-05-2006, 08:19 PM Hubby has allergies...but I dont' think he has ever had a test to see exactly what sets it off. I know my parents cats can irritate him sometimes but hes on Zyrtec which controls it pretty well. And I had never heard of Reactive Airway Diesease before either, but her doc had said thats what they call asthma before really saying someone has asthma. He also wanted to wait a bit before putting her on any more meds which kinda makes sense, right now shes still on Zantac plus Albuterol and Flovent. I'm in no rush for her to grow up, but it will be nice when she is able to talk and tell mommy exactly what it is that is bothering her!!
Emily M 11-05-2006, 09:06 PM It is frustrating when you just don't know. :sad3:
