Hi there,

My baby Taryn is 6 months 3 weeks old, and is on 15mg Prevacid solutab in the AM and 1 ml of Zantac in the PM. She is also currently teething, so we have been giving .8 mls of Tylenol as needed (4-6 hours). The problem is, the Tylenol doesn't seem to be working anymore, and last night she would only sleep when held and then only a couple hours...I assume this is due to escalated pain from teething (if her gnawing is any indication she is really hurting at this point). Of course with GERD, we are always worried that has escalated as well, but given symptoms and past experience with her GERD, I really think it is the teeth.

Here is the question - almost everyone I talk to about the teething pain says that Motrin works far better to manage it BUT of course their babies are not on all the other medications for GERD. So, is it a problem to try the Motrin, or are we resigned to some sleepless nights?

Thanks for the help!

Hi, the dose of tylenol seems to be ok (maybe 1ml instead of 0.8) but they are right about the motrin (ibuprofen). It has anti-inflammatory activity where tylenol doesn't. Regarding the issue with GERD, ibuprofen can be harder on the stomach but is generally well tolerated. Just give it with a feeding and see how it goes. The other bonus is it lasts 8 ranther than 4 hrs ( all night).
Thanks, Graham Ph.C.
