Hi,

My daughter is 7.5 months old and weighs roughly 16lb 3oz.
She has had silent reflux since 5 weeks old and we have tried various medications.
We started on Gaviscon then tried Domperidone and Zantac then when these didn't work Omeprazole (prilosec).
The Omeprazole dosage she is on is 20mg a day we have tried the capsules, tablets and compound in an attempt to have succes with this medication. We have followed the rules on taking the meds on an empty stomach and feeding 30mins later etc. She still takes the Zantac although the ped said we could stop it but when i tried it she got much worse.
The thing is the medication still doesn't seem to help much, she is still feeding poorly although still putting on weight as she sleep feeds all night!
She can sit on her own now but after a few minutes she tenses up and becomes very uncomfy, she still does lots of arching and tilting of her head.
She is sleeping poorly too.

We are seeing a dr this month to try and get prevacid but i'm worried it won't work as i cannot understand why the omeprazole didn't work if it does the same job??

Why do some medications work and others don't??

What is the difference between omeprazole and lansoprazole?? and is one better than the other??
Any advice you have would be great as i want to make sure i know what to say when i see the dr!!

Thanks alot:-)

That is a common question, why does drug x work for them but not me. This can apply to any drug from tylenol to the strongest chemo drugs. As I just replied to another question today, as long as you have given the max dose, at the correct times (like you were doing) then you really have no choice but to change meds if it is still not working. Prevacid and losec are both PPI's and where the losec did not work, prevacid is really the next logical choice. I think I would still hang on to the zantac though, even with the prevacid. Rather than make things too complicated for now, just make that one change and see how it goes.
Good luck
