I haven't been around much because I started back to work full-time on Monday. Dh is staying home with Noah for six weeks (down to five now). Anyway, starting Thursday he was choking more...especially while drinking his bottle. I was home during lunch that day and while Nick was feeding him, he got choked and threw the entire bottle up. That night during a feeding he quit breathing three times. I was worried to death. Friday he seemed to be doing better, so I didn't make a dr. appt. That night though he kept sneezing, was super congested, and seemed to be choking a bit again.

We took him to the dr. Saturday morning and she checked him out, but nothing is wrong other than an ordinary cold! He's 14lbs. 4oz. (in clothes), no ear infection, chest congestion, or anything. She told us he can't even take anything other than using saline drops and a vaporizer. Poor little thing. He's gotten to where he's coughing now and think it's just from sinus drainage. We're constantly trying to clean out his nose, but he still sounds congested. No fever though and still eating good, so guess we're lucky. I just hate seeing him sick.

Nick said he was up constantly with him last night. Noah was waking himself up coughing and not being able to breathe as well. He's done good as the day has progressed though. I really hope he gets better soon and doesn't catch these nasty bugs that are already going around. The ped. told us yesterday her other office has already reported 3 cases of the flu! She said it's starting early this year.

Ugh--those upper respiratory infections can really drag on for so long in these little guys...and it wreaks havoc on their feeding! :-(

I so hope Noah is able to kick this thing and becomes more comfortable feeding soon.

Oh gosh. Poor Noah. :( I wonder if a nebulizer would help him? It really, really helps get that junk up and out. After we do a breathing treatment, Jack's nose runs and runs, which is good, it's draining. Anyway, just a thought.

I hope that he feels better soon.

Thanks, gals! I feel bad enough now that I'm back to work and dh is having to do the majority of the work, but it's even worse with him sick.

Emily, I feel stupid for asking, but what exactly is a nebulizer? Does the ped. have to prescribe it or is it something I can pick up from a pharmacy? Poor Noah has been congested since birth. We finally started using saline drops on him two weeks ago about once a day and that has helped quite a bit. He still got cleared out appx. 3 times a day before he was sick though.

Don't feel stupid. I didn't know until I started working in a daycare and all of these kids came in with these "breathing treatments"

This is easier. This is the link, this is the machine that we have.
And, our doc prescribed albuterol and saline. The saline, I'm assuming is what breaks up the snot. The albuterol, well, I'm not sure what it does. LOL... hold on I'll find that too. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a682145.html

Ok, that should help you. It has helped us a ton. Actually, Jack has been coughing for a month and he stopped yesterday, no coughing, so, stupid me, I didn't do a breathing treatment, well, what do you know?! This morning he wakes and is hacking and coughing and choking on it. **SIGH** so, I hope that helps you a bit. ;)

Thank you so much! We go back to the dr. here soon for his 2 month check-up and shots. I will ask him about it at that time and see what he thinks.
