My 3 month old daughter was just switched from Zantac to Prevacid. The Prevacid doesn't seem to be as effective at stopping her vomiting. I am thinking of switching her back to Zantac, but I don't know the right dose. I found out right when they switched her off of it that they had perscribed way too much (3ml twice a day for a 4lb 10oz. baby). But now I don't know the right dose. She is 3 mos. old & weighs 9lbs.1oz. Also is their some reason the Prevacid wouldn't work for her? I mean, I know they work differently but I heard the Prevaicd was supposed to be so much better.

hi, that dose does seem to be a little high. Probably 10 mg per day might be better than the 40 you were giving. Prevacid is generally better than zantac but as described in other replies, they also work well together. If the prevacid still doesn't do much then there are other PPI's to try. I guess the only way to answer that is sometimes some meds don't work for some people like they do for others. As long as the max dose is used then have the dr change to another. Again, give prevacid 30 min before meals twice daily and try zantac at bedtime or am and bedtime. Check with what your dr thinks on this first.
