Ok, so I got no sleep last night and I am sure I will not sleep tonight either. I spoke w/ the GI and they told me they almost never do PH Probes and feel they are just as invasive as an endoscopy as they will be inserting a tube for 24 hrs, etc., etc. The GI still feels that he should have an endoscopy done and will not prescribe a trial of a PPI. After discussing this at length with my dh we do not want to do the endoscopy and Jackson is in alot of pain. We do feel the next least invasive way to go will be the swallow study. Atleast we will hopefully get some answers and rule out whether or not he has any abnormalities in his digestive system. I feel sooo bad for the little guy. He didn't finish his bottle again this morning and just kept pushing it away and then clamped his mouth shut......Well the swallow study is scheduled for tomorrow at 9:30am....so wish us luck. :sad3:

Good luck with the swallow study. As tests go it is usually one of the easier ones. That is really crazy to say the ph probe is as invasive as the scope. My concern with the scope has always been the he has to be put under to do it. The ph probe is inserted when they are awake.
I hope you are able to figure out something to help the poor little guy feel better.

I know you don't want to have the scope done, but it's really not that big of a deal and the recovery is super quick. There is so much information the doctors can get from that test. If your sweet baby is in so much pain, the scope will tell you why. Like I said in your last post, Payton already had damage at 6 weeks.
I agree with your doctors that the PH probe is just as invasive as the scope. When Payton had his NG tube, he was miserable. It made his reflux worse. The probe is essentially the same thing. He would have to have the probe down his throat for 24 hours. I would rather do the scope and have it over in 20 minutes. There is much less discomfort with the scope. They will use only gas, not IV anesthetic. In - out- done. He will never know what happened. He will be sleepy for a few hours afterward, but then back to normal quickly.
I guess we have been through everything imaginable in regards to reflux and Payton has had 4 operations already. Being put under was the least of my worries, but that is just me. I tend to be rather aggressive - but when my little guy was screaming 13 to 18 hours a day and vomiting everything that went past his lips, I felt like I had no choice. We needed to find out what was wrong - and find out fast.
I truly hope that the swallow study will give the doctors what they need to know, but if they still need to do the scope, please don't fear it. It sounds way worse than it is.
I'll be thinking of you and Jackson tomorrow.

Good luck Anna, I hope that everything runs smoothly for you guys.
Like Krista pointed out it seems we all have different reasons on why we are particular to a test. For us we had the upper GI but Parker was a lot older and it wasn't the best experience for me, but at least it showed reflux there for us. But so many people say it is just a breeze so I wouldn't worry.
Like meds with reflux, testing is the same, what worked for me wont necessarily work for someone else, this is why we are all here and giving out opinions on it.
I think you and your dh have done great to get to a point where you agree on the treatment, and hopefully you will be able to get some anwers with this test. Good luck!
