Emma has her video swallow appt scheduled (finally!) per the speech evaluator's recommendation. The GI read the report and agreed to have it done. She is having her swallow study done on the 3rd of November (day before she is 9 months). On the 7th she is having her hearing test done at Sertoma, also per the evaluator's report.

Is there anything I should prepare for? Her swallow study is at 10:45 which is usually the time of her 2nd bottle of the day before she goes down for a nap....I'm hoping that she will sleep the ride out to University of Chicago and won't be hungry until the test...Emma is a great eater ... so I''m even thinking of giving her a bottle before we leave (approx 1hr drive).

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Our swallow study went really smoothly. It was at a bad time so I had to make Sebastian wait to eat and that was hard. He was perfect during the test and ate everything fine. He even ate the diced carrots that he always refuses to eat and gags on at home.

Good luck with the test. I hope it goes well and will give you some answers.

I would leave the second bottle till you get there, as she may then be more hungry to drink it all for the study.

Good luck with the testing and let us know how she gets on.

This test was a breeze for us....except not letting my non eater eat when she wanted to but she did take the barium with no problems. I would also hold off on that second bottle...Im not sure how bad that stuff tastes so it may be a good idea to make sure she's hungry. You can always offer the bottle right after the test so she will have a full tummy and nap on the way home. Good luck! I hope everything goes well!

Thanks for all your good wishes for us. I just think it is so strange with this little one...I know she has reflux, but she is such a good eater. After the evaluation within a week, she started to eat baby food with the spoon. She does okay with it, but she still gags and coughs with thin liquids such as juice and water. Her formula is thickened with cereal and she takes that well.

She went to the dermatologist yesterday and her skin is looking and feeling like baby skin. When they weighed her, I nearly dropped...she is 18 lbs!! She is taking 24-30 oz formula a day with 2 - 2oz feedings of baby food...and she just loves the Gerber puffs!! She is starting to feed them to herself now.

We'll let you know how it all goes when we are done with the test...
