mikis surgean has booked her in for a barium swallow on friday to check her gastric emptying, but i looked up barium swallow in this web site and i talks more about using it to confirm reflux and aparently not verry acurate not gastric emptying so i am now a bit confussed, are they re testing for reflux or is it to check emptying

You would have to get more clarification from your dr. They do a test with barium and watch it mover though the system to check for emptying. There is also a test where barium is added to food to check for aspiration or other swallowing problems. Or, they could be checking for both.

LOL OK this is where I get confused, because I know in Australia they are called different things. I had always assumed that Parker had the DGE test, but we had a barium follow through, this basically is barium given and then followed through and down, and we were looking for reasons other than reflux he was having screaming attacks, twisted things or obstructions mainly.

I am sure though that a Barium swallow is similar but it is of thicker consistency and it is timed to see how long it takes to empty.

I am going to have a look around for you to see if I can dig up any more info.

How are you going on the fundo decision? Do you have the GI tomorrow? or was that cancelled?

i think that may be what is also confusing me aswel rachel i double check everyting the dr tel me on here and with us being in aus it sems to be different

yes we do have the gi tomorow, still not sure about fundo i am still wanting to avoid it but the surgean was pretty keen to go ahead, hopefully dr mews will guve us another option fingers crossed

If you do see her ph probe results ask her what her score was etc...

That may be a way to compare with other people also, and see similar ones and see what the outcome was for them, ask for a photocopy even LOL.
