I read the other post about lactose intolerant........but I have no idea what MSPI is.......can someone help me with that?
I want to tell you ladies my daughter's symptoms when she eats anything with milk...........she is 16 mons. old, she was on soy formula and is now currently drinking Silk soymilk. My son and I are both lactose intolerant......he is unable to drink milk, but is able to eat cheese, yogurt, ice cream.....I am the same way, but can not eat rich ice cream.....I can drink milk, but not too much.
Now, when she ate cheese in her meals.........she ends up getting diaherra, but before this she would start crying like her belly hurts and then when she has a BM she is fine. Now the BM is always diaherra. And when I give her yogurt, she throws it up..........I want you ladies to know that this has happened more than once.....I have tried several times to give her these things and every time she ends up with diaherra.
What do you ladies think? Thank you for all of your time and advice in advance.

hello
my son use to suffer the same as ur children and urself
he was 6 months old and had very bad poo for a month, virus tests was negative so they put him on soya milk, which helped within 3 days
we tried him on dairy products but everytime he would eat anything containing even a slightest bit of dairy he would have bad poo
i think lactose intolerant and reflux have similar symtons
has ur children had the allergy test done this will tell u for sure if they have a intolerant to lactose
what we was told was to wait a month then try him on a tiny amount of dairy, and do the same if it didnt work
fianlly after 18 months matthew was over the allergy and is now on everything dairy and doesnt get ill at all from it now
good luck
love nat

MSPI is milk soy protein intolerance. It is different from lactose intolerance, as it is the milk and soy proteins that are not being properly digested. It is usually outgrown. My son’s symptoms were projectile vomiting, frequent mucusy stools, very bad gas, and just overall discomfort. We went from breast milk to soy formula to nutramigen (a hypoallergenic formula.)
If the soy is not bothering her then it would not be MSPI, but maybe a milk protein sensitivity, a milk allergy, or lactose intolerance.
I would discus her symptoms with your dr and see if he/she recommends allergy tests.

Ditto what Katey said. She answered you right on.
It's hard to figure out. We thought that my son was MSPI, but he is now handling milk based forumla just fine. So, it's strange. But, it can cause reflux to be worse.

Cody does the same thing with Milk. I just started him on a soy milk and seems to be doing better and it has helped his motility a little as well, or at least I see an improvement.

Well......I spoke to our CVS pharmacist and she suggested that we try Lactaid.......I found a Children's Lactose Intolerance Daily Chewable Tablet made by Digestive Advantage. I am going to try this to see if will help.....I am hoping so!!!!

Well ladies.....the chewables seem not to be working. So I am not intrusting a pharmacist that compounds meds. I did call Johnson and Johnson to see if they still make the drops, but I was told that they decided to not anymore. So on Monday I will be picking up the mix and the pharmacist wants me to try the way he makes it and then I can tell him in a few weeks if it is helping or not then he can change it or keep it the same.
I am just worried though.....I am hoping that it really does help her. I called my cousin who is a nurse what the difference was between a milk allergy and intolerance......she said that an allergy she would think that Rylie would break out in hives or something along those lines that showed an allergy......like when I was in the hospital after birthing Rylie, I found out that I was allergic to Coedine because I itched and broke out in hives. And then she said that she thought that she may be intolerant to milk.
I am thinking that I am going to call the pulmologist on Monday to ask him about all my concerns....what do you ladies think?
