Hi
Have been having a nightmare trying to give Matthew Losec, those sodding tablets are a nightmare. Have spoken to Astra Zeneca and they have said you definitely must not crush or chew them as the small coated granules within the tablet will only work if they are still coated when they get to the stomach.

Trying to put the dissolved tablet in water and then give to Matthew is impossible because the granules just stay on the spoon or in the syringe. He just swallows the water.

Also, he only needs 4mg and the tablets are 10mg, its impossible!

So today I tried something new - I dissolved the tablet in half a teaspoon of water, then mixed this with 2ml of Carobel paste that I made. I then syringed this is, and followed with 1oz of cooled boiled water from his normal bottle. Hopefully this will be as effective?!

Anyone else have an opinion on this, or got any bright ideas?

Thanks,
Rachel x

Rachel, all I can say is try to get your pharmacy to compound the omeprazole suspension. What you are doing with the tablet doesn't sound like the dose is getting delivered properly and perhaps the active ingredient may be degraded by the time it is ready to be absorbed. With the suspension, you have better control over the dose and it should be in a more stable form (even temporarily).
