My DS throws up constantly between feedings. His GIput him on Reglan for a trial period. I was nervous to give it to him due to the side effects but agreed to try it for a week. We gave it to him for 10 days. First thing in the morning after the 6th dose we were waiting the 20 minutes before feeding him when he spit up some really thick mucus. I'd say about 1/4 cup and I can't stress how thick it was. Also from the start he seemed really cranky and he started sucking his hands all the time. He also threw his arms back and stiffened his whole body for no reason a few times during the 10 day trial. I was quick to blame the reglan and have discontinued use.

My questions: was this really a small dose as the gi told me (.7ml 3xs a day)? Can the behaviors I mentioned really be side effects of Reglan? Can it make infants uncomfortable causing the crankiness? Is the mucus a concern and can the Reglan cause mucus production?

Hi, the dose is ok, and based on the information you've given (a little on the light side), the movement problem could also be from the drug but is usually found after a higher dose. The restlessness and anxiety also could be from this. The mucus might be from some constipation that he may have been experiencing (?) where things weren't moving very well from the stomach. Although this doesn't seem to be the best drug after all for him, talk to the Dr. before you stop it. But talk to him right away about it just so there is no more extra discomfort
Thanks, Graham Ph.C.
