Hi Dr.,

The speech forum is not open as of yet. But, from a developmental standpoint maybe you can help. My son is 18 weeks old. He is not yet squealing with delight or making raspberry sounds. He will smile. It takes a lot just to get him to laugh - a lot of phyical movement.

This seems the only delayed area at this time and I was wondering if it could be due to his reflux - damaging the back of his throat? Pain?

Thanks, Jen

Hi, Jen,

I doubt that any reflux caused damage to the back of the throat that
would cause him not to speak on schedule. I would expect him to
progress well and doubt by what you are telling me, that he has any
significant long lasting delay in speech, as long as all the other developmental
parameters are normal.

Good luck, Dr. Olson
