i've asked my doctor but he's of no help, he just says if it's reflux there is nothing that can be done. my 3 month old son is formula fed. the problem is mostly at night. i feed him and put him in his crib. he sleeps like an angel for about one hour. and then the groaning and moaning starts (very loud like the sounds he would make if he was going poop). i go in and check on him and his eyes are closed but he is still going at it. also, he pulls his legs up tight and slams them down on the mattress. if i put a pacifier in and rub his head sometimes he'll calm down for a half hour to an hour and then it starts again. if i let him go he'll eventually start crying and wake up. is this reflux? is it bad gas? what can i do? switch formulas? we are already feeding him upright, burping after every two ounces (he eats about 4 ozs every three hours - he weighs 13 pounds), and keeping him upright for 30 minutes after he eats. please help as we are going crazy.

Hi,

To say that there is nothing to be done about reflux is crazy. I can't tell you what this is. Could it be reflux? Yes. Could it be excess digestive gas caused by a formula intolerance? Yes. Please discuss this with your doctor and if you get the run around, see someone else.

Good luck, Dr. Olson
