View Full Version : Prevacid and night wakings? HezBucks 10-18-2006, 09:01 PM Have you ever heard of insomnia and / or night wakings as a side effect of Prevacid Solutabs. My daughter is 8.5 months and taking 37.5 mg per day. Thanks for your help. Heather graham 10-19-2006, 04:48 PM Although insomnia and night wakenings are a side effect of an 8/12 month old, they are also unfortunately side effects of prevacid too. That is also a hefty dose for the prevacid. That might be making the problem worse. Thanks, Graham Ph.C. HezBucks 10-19-2006, 11:00 PM Thanks for your time and the info. We have tried lower doses, and different meds, and the reflux gets worse, so I guess we are stuck with the night wakings? They are usually pretty frequent...5-6 times per night. She had been sleeping through the night from about 4 months, when we started meds and reflux began to get better, until about 6 months, I suppose around the time of the med increase. My next question is, is she waking from purely just a "wake frequent" side effect, or could the prevacid be causing a discomfort that is is causing the wakings? Thanks for all of your help! graham 10-23-2006, 06:16 PM Heather, is the prevacid given in the evening or am? HezBucks 10-23-2006, 10:30 PM Hi there, Grahm. The dose is split, am and pm. Her doc increased to 45 mg today. 15 mg in the am, and 30 in the evening. What do you think? graham 10-24-2006, 06:03 PM Heather, I think the higher dose in the evening could possibly make it worse. I was going to suggest giving the dose once daily in the am and see what happens. Having said that, if you gave the new dose last night, how did it go? Graham Ph.C. HezBucks 10-24-2006, 08:43 PM Well, firstly, the dose was increased because her doc thinks she is refluxing at night. She has been waking at least 5-6 time per nite, screaming for the past few months. Daytime has gotten better, because she is upright now most of the time walking, sitting, etc. Soooo that was the reasoning behind the increase in the eve dose. Last nite beleive it or not actually went "better". She slept from 8pm-4:30am with only one wake at 11 for a bottle. We will see how the next few days go, if we revert back to frequent wakings, I am inclined to give the entire dose in the am. What do you think? HezBucks 10-24-2006, 08:43 PM Oh, and thanks for taking time out to answer my questions. It is really appreciated! graham 10-25-2006, 06:42 AM Heather, that's great that it went better last night. you should stay that way for now even if there are a few nights that don't go so well and see how it goes overall. Again don't change to the am completely without discussing it with the doctor. Good luck, Graham Ph.C. |
