View Full Version : chiropractors for reflux
hi guys just wondering if any of use have taken your babies to chiropractors for treating reflux and what are your thoughts on it,
i am thinking of giving it a try thought might be worth a try b4 agreeing to fundo
good or bad thoughts both will be apriciated
scarlet 10-13-2006, 05:51 AM Amy I haven't taken Parker to a chiro, it is the next and last on my list of alternative medicines. We have had kineseology done and this hasn't helped much at all, except he was having a lot of different rash type reactions to food and these have gone since going to this- so I suppose this is a plus.
They then sent me to a homepath, she is in Kalamunda but she is really good, BUT I haven't seen a huge improvement that I can say was from her KMIW? I am going to continue it though until January when we wean, who knows what it will do.
She is very thorough and asks the most amazing questions, I think if Drs took an hour to get a profile on their patients, better treatment would be given. The best thing is she is realatively cheap, she is $40 a session and the remedies are $5.00 each LOL, and we have HBF and it covers half the total cost. We see her once a month.
Emily M takes Jackson to a chiropractor and swears it helps (though I think it has more to do with the good looking Chiro- haha, lets see if she reads this!)
No really she does say that he is so much better after he has gone. I think go for it if you have time, you never know, I am a true belevier in trying these things.
I would suggest though a qualified child chiro, where I go to the homeopath, its a chiro clinic and I have heard good things and he was chiro of the year, but it is a really long way for you guys. Let me know how it goes.
BTW the GI does not think that any alternative medicines will help Parker. I have already asked her. She said they are not backed up by science, trust a Dr to say that.
we got the same response from mikis pead he said they are a bunch of hippees
i think we will give it a go ill try any thing, the one we are looking at going is trained on infants which like you said is really important
scarlet 10-13-2006, 06:02 AM I'd be really interested in how it goes, you never know and if it gets better I may try the same one.
Emily M 10-13-2006, 06:42 AM (Rach) Alright you, shhh..... telling my secrets! LOL Just kidding....
Yes, yes, yes, I do swear that my baby is better from a chiro. Yet, I am chicken still to wean him from meds. He wants me to, but I just can't, you know?! We started when he was tiny, they say that Ped. Chiro. are only supposed to massage, but mine is both and he did adjustments on Jack. The first time I about died. He adjusted his little neck and I thought, ACK... I will not go back. But, then he explained to me and now it is no big deal... and Jack has never, ever cried one time while being adjusted or after. At first it was a once a week thing, then every 2, then every 3, now we are at once a month. You have to keep with it and stay consistent. I used to be able to tell when he needed to go, he would start spitting up a bit again (although he is a silent refluxer)
At our first visit he explained that the one area in the spine that is out of line in babies from vaginal birth is the one that affects the stomach, hence colic or reflux. He doesn't believe in colic, he does think it is reflux.
I love to go, it is amazing to me that he could do something so simple and he feels better. Oh, and we had a HORRIBLE ear infection a couple of weeks ago, I knew it, he was screaming bloody murder, my chiro. suggested these garlic oil ear drops, three times a day... what do you know, the next day he was alot better. We went to the ped and he they were still a bit infected, but a couple of days before the doc. probably would have seen major infection in there. So, I do know that alternative medicine does work.
Good luck and let us know what you decide.;-)
ill keep you posted on it i am praying it works
munkeesmama 10-13-2006, 04:24 PM Our insurance is changing and my ped is a chiro/homepathic doctor. I want to take her to him and see what he can do.
I took Ava to a chiro three months or so ago. I expected a major change and there was a change, only little.
The chiro told me that when the baby is adjusted, the baby will either burp or have a bowl movement. Ava had both, wich was pretty amazing. She seemed to have gotten better after the treatment, but then it went back to reflux. Chiro suggested that I pair the adjustments with probiotics and we did not follow through with any of that.
You can certainly try, but make sure that he treats infants in his practice and therefore is experienced.
Good luck.
Shaes Grammy 10-13-2006, 05:08 PM Amy, there were a few different threads on chiropractors in the past. Why not do a search and see if you can find the threads.
Best wishes
Jean
anna1 10-13-2006, 05:57 PM Never been to a chiro. but I just started taking Jackson to a PT for cranial sacral therapy, he's been there 3x and I have definetly seen an improvement, matter of fact he was waking anywhere b/w 3-8x a night from reflux, very unpredictable sleeping patterns and I had to give mylanta 2x per night...after his first visit...the boy slept thru the night....very weird, but I have to admit he is doing a bit better than he was....but we are definetly still on meds! I would be curious to know how the chiro. visit goes, please keep us updated!

Ella, you really have to keep up with it. Like I said, we are down now to once a month, but it is an ongoing treatment thing. At least that is what my chiro. told us.
