View Full Version : Emma's having a scope.
munkeesmama 10-10-2006, 02:23 PM Well, we saw her g.i this morning. She could tell how tired I was. She said her main issues with doing a fundo are even if they tighten the esophagus she has delayed gastric emptying. So that would cause an array of problems and would't solve thing. So they would have to do the pyloric as well, which of course has it's own set of complications. If we have to go that route we will, but for now we're continued with the wait and see. she is 5 months adjusted age, 8 months real age. So she wants to keep on keeping on. I expressed that really I'm not sure how much longer we can do that and at this point want to procede with testing to rule out different things of course while waiting for the surgery, IF she even needs it. I also told her I wanted to try the hs blocker with the ppi. So she is setting up Emma to be admitted in the hospital. Either thursday morning to friday afternoon, or monday morning to tuesday afternoon depending on schedulng. She will have a scope with the biopsy, as well as as gastric emptying study. That is the plan anyways. So we're going on hospitalization #4. ::sigh:: I just wanted SOMETHING to show up that is an easy fix. I know it won't happen but one can hope right?
Emily M 10-10-2006, 03:47 PM Ugh.... ((((hugs)))) I hope that things go well and you do get some answers. It is very frustrating when you look for one, and it just isn't there.
Good luck.
munkeesmama 10-10-2006, 04:12 PM Thanks, I doubt we'll get answers, but maybe. I feel like we are totally grasping for straw now.
scarlet 10-11-2006, 08:54 AM Well I think you are doing the right thing, at least if she has the findo you can have peace of mind that you tried everything.
Good luck with the testing, and let us know how she goes.
Will she be having the pH probe as well?
munkeesmama 10-11-2006, 09:56 AM She won't be having the probe anymore. She has had 3 ph probes done in her life. Her doctor was quite irritated by this, since we KNOW she has reflux. She says "I've been doing this for 20 years, if a kid comes in with arching back, refusal to eat, irritability and puking, sometims even 3 hours after a feeding there's no need for a probe. We KNOW the baby has reflux." she could see having one done but not 3! So, no more probes for her. Not sure what other testing she will have. I'm somewhat nervous though. The last time she was in the hospital it was due to "blue spells" due to reflux. She had one very minimal spell which the nurse felt wuldn't even be considered one b/c her whole mouth didn't turn blue, just around her nose/top of mouth. (That nurse was a jerl anyways) and she was quite pleasant, ate pretty well, and slept smewhat normally, waking every 2-3 hours. At home she's up much more often, and is much more irritable. I sometimes feel like the way some doctors and nurses talk to me is like I'm making it up. I don't know if she behaves differently because she is somewhere new or what. when she was in the nicu last for her rop surgery she was on her best behavior the first 3 days, and then she got into her groove of constant crying unless held, not eating well, etc. They were begging us to come get her right away when she was being discharged. So I'm not sure if she knows she's in an uncomfortable place or what. ::sigh:: Oh well, I guess it doesnt matter what they think. I KNOW what is going on. I got a video the other day when she was refluxing. I put her in a bouncing chair. she didn't puke but was whining/crying, irritable. You can see her swallowing it down at points and at one popint coughing from it. :( So, the short answer in no more probes. Sorry, for the novel.
munkeesmama 10-11-2006, 09:57 AM Thanks!
scarlet 10-11-2006, 10:16 AM LOL thats OK, three probes gosh that is a lot. I was only suggesting it, cause I have seen here kids who have the endoscopy and then a couple of weeks later have the probe, it was so much easier getting it inserted while he was under. Not all Drs have common sense though.
How are the blue spells going? Any better?
munkeesmama 10-11-2006, 10:29 AM Her blue spells are DEFINITELY better, not resolved but better. they're not shorter and less "intense" as well. And they're down to ONLY while refluxing while awake. She hasn't had one while refluxing while asleep in quite some time. YAY. So things are helping, just not enough!
Katey 10-11-2006, 10:33 AM Good luck with the scope. I hope she handles it well and you get good news!
munkeesmama 10-16-2006, 09:37 AM Uggh, they couldn't get her scheduled for the thursday/friday. Her g.i. left a message on my voicemail to call the appt. center and leave a message letting her know if we wanted to proceed on monday (today) so i did. twice actually. They said she's been in on monday at 7. Now I don't expect a call ASAP, however if the scope is supposed to happen today then I kinda need to know. I went ahead and scheduled an appt. with her ped anyways since i'm more comfortable with her. I plan on discussing a g-tube with her, getting her inout, and somewhat planting the seed. since I know she'll notate it in the computer and it's kaiser so the g.i. will also be able to read the notes. I like my daughter's g.i. and all and she's done it for a long time I trust her, but at times I think she is a bit too conservative. Emma is still puking (puddles, not spit up) wakes up constantly at night. Still convinced she is ONLY gaining because of dream feeds etc. I'm not sure i would call this progress. Oh yeah and the dge hasn't changed at all anymore. I'm tired and at a loss. So if nothing else I can vent to my ped and get a pat on the back and reassurnace. Oh yeah and we dalay vax so it's now time. Not sure i'll do it today though. she has a runny nose, helluva cough and is choking/blue spells right now. Maybe just a cold (NONE of us including my preschool kid are sick) and nasty nasty mucous. So maybe reflux flaring? who knows. Just a small update!
so sorry you are going thru this. Did you try erythromycin? I did with maiya- she ate more but the bellyaches were too bad- it did help the reflux a bit
Good luck with the scope. I just once again delayed the vaccines=very hard to vaccine gerdlings
keep us posted
