Ok, Jack has been on the nebulizer breathing treatments for a week. His cough is almost gone, no more wheezing. So, how long???? The prescription didn't say how long to continue. Does anyone know?!

Sorry, that wasn't helpful, was it? Call your doc and ask. I have zero experience with episodic asthma as my son is chronic and we did breathing treatments at least 4x a day every day for 4 1/2 years before switching to inhalers and oral meds. With Catherine, we've always been given specific instructions for duration of treatment. scarlet 10-10-2006, 12:25 PM Em, you should leave it till he has been better at least a week. You may be able to decrease the amount of times a day though, how much is he on again? Maybe do it twice a day for another week. Ella 10-10-2006, 01:15 PM Emily, my son uses nebulizer all the time and the doctor says to use it every 4 hrs till the cough and wheezing is gone and then to do it twice a day (am & pm) for a week to make sure. It after a week you think he is totally fine you can stop. But do call you doctor to make sure. Emily M 10-10-2006, 03:55 PM No Lesley, that wasn't helpful! LOL But you made me laugh! :evil4: Rach, supposed to be every 4-6 hours, but I just can not get that in, that would be 4 a day, and they WIND HIM UP! :happy6: So I've been doing two a day... on in the morning as soon as he wakes and one after his afternoon nap. He gets .5 of albuterol and 2 squirts of the saline. Yesterday he only had one and today he was coughing again **sigh** I wonder if this is my sign that his is asthma???!!! GRRR... I just did one and I'm going to do another before bed. Last night we did one right before bed and it didn't bother him, thank goodness. Thanks girls!;-) |
