I have been thickening my sons formula with 1 tbsp. of soy free rice cereal per 2 ounces of alimentum formula. I am concerned about him gaining to much weight from this.
We used to give him 5 ounces of alimentum, now we give 4 ounces with 2 tbsp. of rice.
I have worked out how many calories and carbs he is getting, I would just like to know if there is a standard number of calories and carbs. a baby can have a day?
Thank you for your time,
Lauren

Hi, Lauren,

Really no standard caloric intake that works well for everyone. I would keep track of this with your pediatrician. Adding the rice actually probably reduces the total # of calories per day, which is usually not a problem.

Good luck, Dr. Olson

Hi,

Generally adding rice cereal cuts down on the total daily calories. Whether this is of no consequence, is good or bad, depends on her grow in general. It generally makes little difference in growth.

Good luck, Dr. Olson
