What will this test show with regard to reflux? My daughter had one at two weeks of age along with regular x-rays and an upper GI and reflux was diagnosed. She's now 20mo and her GI (differen dr than the first tests) is doing another one next week. He mentioned looking at all her abdominal organs -- why? I'm not sure. She was scoped top to bottom last January and was clean (on meds). What could the u/s tell us that we don't already know? Thanks.

Hi,

If she has had scoping procedures upper and lower, I'm not sure what an ultrasound will tell. My suggestion, feeble as it may be, is to ask the GI doctor what specifically is the test looking for. It is safe but is not a commonly done test in this situation. Sorry I can't be of more help to you.

Good luck, dr. Olson

Hi,

This would be an uncommon test to do in this situation. It might help to rule out other conditions, but I doubt it. Ask the doctor what he/she has in mind before doing the test. It is safe, but I am unable to tell you why it is being done.

Good luck, Dr. Olson

Hi,

I am not sure of the value of the ultrasound in this situation. She has been extensively evaluated and to me, this is a test that has questionable merit. It is safe, however.

Ask the doctor what he/she is looking for and perhaps there is a good reason for it.

Good luck, Dr. Olson
