I have another question about the Prevacid......I have heard that it should be taken on an empty stomach and that is where I have an issue. The doc never specified that she is to take it on an empty stomach. I do give her the Prevacid with some applesauce though. Now where I run into a problem is that my daughter does not really eat an entire meal, she tends to nimble here and there. So when she gets home from daycare she is thirsty, so I give her some Silk milk to drink. Now I have been giving her the Prevacid 1/2 before we eat dinner......not thinking that her soymilk is considered a meal.

Does this mean that the Prevacid is not going to work or does this mean that it may take longer to take effect? If I wait to give her the milk, so has a fit......which I know that you are probably saying to go ahead and let her have on, but it is quite difficult when you have another child in the house.

Thanks!!

Prevacid should be given on an empty stomach to be released and absorbed properly, but it grabs onto actively secreting acid cells in the stomach and binds to them - so you need to give food after it is absobed. Therefore give it and hour to 1/2 hour before a meal. Milk is definitely considered food. The applesauce is fine and should not affect bioavailability. If you give it with food then it doesn't mean it will take longer to work, it just means it may not work at all.
Hope this helps , Graham Ph.C.
