Thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions.
My daugther, Allie, is 12 1/2 months old. We have had a long history of feeding problems, which are getting much better but are still not "normal."
Allie does not do a lot of things she "should" be doing at this age, like clapping or pointing. She has a few words (ball, up, baba) and used to say mama and dada, but stopped saying those about a month ago. Her gross motor skills are right on track, it's her communicative skills that worry me. She recently started waving bye-bye, but does not do this consistently at all. She does not mimic our actions very often (but will do it occaisionally).
Every doctor we have ever seen has told us that she should be getting about 100 calories per day per kilo of weight. Currently, she's about 9 kilos (19.5 pounds). She has never, ever gotten what she "needs" in calories according to the doctors. She usually gets about 35 calories per pound per day. Right now, she gets about 600 calories per day. She will not eat any solid foods, and we're in therapy for that. She is doing much better with her bottle, so we're making progress. Despite the fact that she gets about 300 calories less per day than what is recommended, she has always maintained her 25th percentile growth curve (she was 6 lbs 8 oz at birth).
Do you think that Allie's lack of calories has contributed to her delay in these skills? Should I be worried about the fact that she doesn't clap or point (she does reach for things, but her OT told me that pointing is different than reaching).
We have her 1 year immunizations next week. I was thinking about asking her pediatrician to refer us to a developmental pediatrician, but wondered if I'm stressing out about this too much. I feel like other kids her age are doing so much more than what Allie does.
Thanks,
Christyn
