View Full Version : My stomach is in knots
Emily M 09-20-2006, 06:35 AM I think wayyyy too much. Last night while lying in bed I was thinking, "Hmmm... I think that I will call tomorrow and cancel Jack's upper GI" I just do not want to put him through it. I am sooo nervous, and I know that it isn't going to be bad. I think the part that I am dreading the most is the fact that he can't eat and we have to drive 70 miles and he will be HUNGRY and it is going to kill me not to feed him, you know?! I mean, as a mother we do what we can to make our children feel comfortable and I just won't be able to stand not letting him eat. :sad5:
So, his appt. is at 830am and we have to leave at 630 I am going to sneak in and do a dream feed tonight at 10pm maybe that will help a bit.
That's all for now! :sad3:
Minnie 09-20-2006, 06:46 AM Ya know I thought the same thing about Eric, but he did really well.
I only had 60 miles to drive though hopefully that last 10 minutes you have on your trip goes quickly.
Anyway,
I started thinking. Have I ever fed him in the car? Nope.
Why would he think he was going to get food in the car then?
He was ready when they gave him that barium though, but he was too busy looking around at all the new people and new stuff to even complain.
I have a feeling you will be posting a happy post afterward, and you'll be talking about how it was so much easier than you expected. Try not to worry (((BIG HUG)))
HezBucks 09-20-2006, 07:04 AM Oh hang in there, mommy. Anyone who has had a kid that won't eat totally freaks out when they actually can't LET them eat, even if you know they want to. You spend all that time trying to feed and nurture them, and even if it is just one time, it;s like you are failing them. You are doing the right thing. And you are a good mommy. I swear.
Emily M 09-20-2006, 08:34 AM Thank you girls so much. You did make me feel so much better.
Minnie, you are totally right, I have never fed Jack in the car either. LOL But, I am worried about him lying still and them having to do that. You know? How old was Eric when he had his? And did they have to make him lay still?! AUGHHH.............too many thoughts, the voices won't stop! LOL
Sam's Mom 09-20-2006, 11:42 AM Tell the "voices" to go away! You know he will be fine and you will be a mess! That is just how it goes!
I hope it goes well and the car ride is smooth, Good Luck!
Debbie 09-20-2006, 11:50 AM All will be fine Emily...just remember why your doing this, it's for Jacks well being sweety....Over before you know it
...easy for me to say we haven't had the pleasure..but I'm sure he will be fine he's a sweet little boy
Miori 09-20-2006, 11:58 AM ((((HUGS)))) Emily! I think I'd be in the same state you are!
It will be okay and hopefully, the test will give you the results you need. :)

I remember being so worried about Keegan's Upper GI and it was such a simple procedure. As for not eating, of course he wouldn't eat when he could and then when I couldn't give him anything he started getting cranky but that was just as we got to the appt. And then they gave him the barium, it's actually good that they are hungry, there probably won't be a problem then getting him to drink the barium.
And the having to hold him still part didn't last terribly long, the whole thing didn't take long to be honest. As long as they let you stand right there and you can be one of the people holding him he probably will be okay. And even if he doesn't like it it won't be because he's in pain, the test is not painful. So that hopefully is reassuring.
Good luck, and I hope this helps give you some answers and results in getting him the help he needs!
Minnie 09-20-2006, 12:15 PM Thank you girls so much. You did make me feel so much better.

I'm so glad I made you feel better :D
Eric was 20 months old for his UGI and still had trust when it came to doctors and nurses, so it went way smoother than I ever imagined.
Eric's biggest problem is that he wanted more than what they gave him, but there were 2 people. One was the tech and one was the helper, and the helper had books and toys to show Eric and he just laid there and listened to her and really enjoyed it. They have to turn the baby on their side for some pictures too and for that she just walked over to the other side of the table and showed him something different. He forgot that he was even hungry because he was having fun. Until they were done of course.
Just remember this is all new and creepy to us, but these people at the hospital do it everyday. Trust them, and keep a smile on your face. Eric looked to me quite a few times to make sure everything that was happening was O.K. so I just acted as though we were at the carnival or something fun.
If he for whatever reason he throws a fit, they'll know what to do to get the job done as fast and as easy as possible for your little one.
Good Luck
Debbie 09-20-2006, 12:20 PM I had to come back to this
