View Full Version : Prevacid, Vomitting and Effectiveness

Andy gets his first dose of Prevacid (7.5 mg, one-half Solutab) at 5 a.m. on an empty stomach with his last feeding at midnight.

His first feeding is at 6 a.m. and without fail he generally vomits everything either during or immediately after this feeding, including what appears to be the bulk of the solutabs (little red beads).

1. How effective is the Prevacid going to be if he throws it up only an hour later? I assume since these are time release tablets, the longer it is in him, the better it will work.

2. Should I time the administration of the medicine either closer or farther away from the feeding to eliminate the vomitting?

Thanks.

Before I go any further, when do you give the first reglan dose of
the day (with the precacid)?

I usually give the reglan closer to the feeding (6 a.m.) instead of with the Prevacid (5 a.m.).

Hi, Andy's prevacid dose is timed perfectly for maximum absorption. Why not try giving the reglan at the same time. The dose of reglan has some room for increase of dose but please do not do this without talking with your doctor first. The prevacid dose is actually a little on the high side of normal. Usually an hour is sufficient to avoid giving a second dose.
Is it just the 6 am feeding that is the problem?

He has other issues with his other feedings, but the 6 a.m. one is almost a guaranteed vomit.

I will try the Reglan at the same time and see what happens. Thanks!
