Nick has his upper GI tomorrow. I know they will give him contrast to drink and then basically ultrasound his belly. However, I don't remember if it looks at gastric emptying...is this included or is it a different test? Thanks!

Emma had an upper GI, but without any ultrasound. It was more of a xray machine. She had barium to drink prior.

The doctor also had ordered a "follow thru series" in which they did xrays every so often to see how the barium went thru after it hit the stomach.

Dany had an UGI and it wasn't too big of a deal (except that his biggest problem is refusal of a bottle and we had to get him to drink barium from a bottle!). He wouldn't take the bottle the first time, so we walked around the hospital for an hour and came back and he did fine. He only drank about 2 oz. but that was all that they needed.

Danny's was also an x-ray type machine and once he decided to take the bottle, the whole thing only took about 15 minutes. It's absolutely the easiest test we've had done...
