Our gi doc won't do a test for DGE, even though the boys always seem full after 3 or 4 ounces, the holes to their intestines were small on the endoscopy, and Jack's stomach wouldn't empty during an upepr GI. They are only drinking 20 oz a day now. We are so frustrated. She said they don't do them unless the babies are failing to thrive (which I think is coming soon for us) or are puking all the time. She thinks it's all behavioral, but we KNOW it's not. I am so frustrated and depressed.

All behavioral??? At that age??? They are babies...give me a break!!!:bs: That seems so ridiculous to me!! Have you gone to see a peds GI doctor?? That would be my advice. I have found that though the pediatricians mean well, they don't really have much of a clue when it comes to this stuff.

Oops, I see you have a GI doc....is there another one you can consult? Good luck to you!!

I get that kids will limit their intake because of discomfort and that it can be behavioral, even at a young age; however, there's a REASON for the behavioral issues! Babies don't merely decide to worry you by not eating--they limit intake because they're in pain or because they literally are full! *runs around room screaming*

Look, if she could give you a valid reason for not doing the test (such as, "we already know they are delayed in emptying and we'll treat it without putting them through another test", etc.), I'd be okay. However, to make a baby wait until he's failing to thrive sounds not-so-good to me. *remember, I am pregnant and hormonal, which could play into my anger!*

We did that test, and Daniel wasn't FTT. Yes, he was puking -- and it seemed like a lot to me, but the main reason we did it was to try to figure out why he would not eat.

There's no point in addressing the "behaviors" unless the medical issue is resolved!

I agree. I am not going to waste my time going over behavioral reasons until I rule out the medical stuff. Oh well, new doc, new hospital soon!

Mary, I think I have heard that many times the doctors wait until the child is FTT, I don't get it but I know I have heard that complaint many times.

Becky, I couldn't agree more! Definitely fix the medical problem and then 'if' it is behavioral then work on that.

I think I should be giving this GI some brochures?

Best wishes
