This is from a information sheet I received this week from CHEO in regards to Curran's upcoming scopes.
This is a guideline only and not meant to be a definitive guideline for all surgical procedures. Please check with your GI or ped for information regarding the guidelines that apply to your child for any procedure. :wink:
Infants (0-24 months)
Healthy Infants:
*No solids after midnight
*If bottle-fed the child may have bottled milk or formula up to 6 hours before surgery
* If fortified breast milk is used, the child may have it up to 6 hours before surgery
* If breast fed, the child may have breast milk up to 4 hours before surgery
* Clear fluids only (water, apple juice, or jello) as tolerated up to 3 hours before sugery and NOTHING ELSE
Children and Youth (ages 2 to 19 years)
Healthy children or Youth:
*No solids or milk after midnight
*Clear fluids only (water, apple juice, or jello) as tolerated up to 3 hours before surgery and NOTHING ELSE
Infants, Children, or Teenagers with Major Health Problems:
Patients who have major health problems will be required to fast for at least 2 hours greater than the above guidelines state
