Hello and thank you in advance for any help and advice you can give me.
My daughter is 6 months old and weighs 15lb 4oz. She was on Zantac until about a month ago when she started getting worse dispite putting the dose up a few times.
So the dr put her on omeprazole condensed at a low dose of 5mg once a day, this seemed to help a bit although the syrup tasted foul and although it had a shelf life of 2 weeks I found the last 2-3 days didn't work as it had become unstable.
So we switched to losec mups (the tablet form that you mix with a bit of water so they dissolve and then put a tiny bit of applesauce with them) and the dr put her dose up to 10mg a day and although this seemed to help she started getting worse again so the dr has now put her up to 20mg a day, split into 10mg twice a day.
My question is that dispite this she is getting worse and worse and I feel I may not be giving her the meds correctly as the dr has not advised me on how to administer them.
We have 20mg tablets so i am currently cutting them in half to get the 2 10mg doses for the day.....should i be doing this? or is it making the medication unstable?
Also I am currently giving them on an empty stomach 30mins before a meal is this the correct timing for them?
My daughter is in so much pain still she will not feed for very long and as i am breastfeeding i cannot tell how much she eats but it's not much, would this affect the medication from working properly too?
I just know I am doing something wrong as the drug seems to be doing nothing!! but the condensed helped her so i know it can work!
Also can i go back to using the condensed straight away ?
Sorry for all the questions!
I have tried to find out the answer to these questions but so far I haven't found any helpful advice!
