Oooh so glad this board is up!

What is the correct amount of infant Tylenol drops to give to a 23 pounder? (My kid, not a fish ;) )

Also....does Tylenol interact with either Prevacid, Pepcid, or MOM? When Mason is teething bad I never give him anything because the poor kid is medicated on everything else throught that day and I don;t want to mess up his other meds.

Thanks SO much!

The normal dose for acetaminophen is 10-15 mg/kg every 4-6 hours in infants and children (neonates every 6-8 hours). No more than 5 doses per day. This means that for a 10 kg child with normal liver function, a dose of 1.3-1.9 ml of acetaminophen drops per dose is sufficient. Please do not confuse this with the acetominophen oral liquid of 160 mg/ teaspoon. Several overdoses have resulted in permanent liver damage or even death when too much is given. This is compounded when you give a cold medication which can also contain acetaminophen. This is a safe medication when given as directed and is quite effective for pain and fever.
Regarding your interaction question, acetaminophen is fine with these medications but pepcid may not get absorbed as well when given with the milk of magnesia or other antacids.
Thanks for your question, hope this helps, Graham Ph.C.
