Mason does see a wonderful GI, but we don't see her for a few more months again as his reflux is now well under control with meds, so I would just love some input from you if you have any thoughts.
Mason has been on Prevacid and Pepcid since he was 8 weeks old (he is now 7 months). When he was on formula alone, he had no problems having a BM at all and had quite a few a day.
I know with solids it is common to be harder, but ever since we started solids he gets super constipated. (I.e. painful, red bottom, straining over several hours, crying, etc.)
I have tried eliminating all of the constipating foods (bananas, apples etc) and have given him lots of foods to help him go (prunes, pears, water, juice). he loves his solids, and is now starting some smaller finger foods that he can mash with his gums so I worry about the constipation getting even worse as he by far prefers these over the purees. (He's also had probiotics and Yo Baby yogurt which helped temporarily and then he backed up again).
The GI has him on a daily dose of milk of magnesia. And if I miss a dose I am sure to have a problem the next day when he cannot go. I of course give it to him to keep him moving.
I am starting to worry that this is going to be a permanent thing and I don't know why it's happening. When he was on the meds and formula alone he had no issues at all. Any ideas of what could be happening and could this kid be on MOM permanently? :(
P.S. And I doubt this has anything to do with it, but before solids he had silent reflux and never spit up. Since starting solids he barfs constantly. He is also a very large baby (7 months and 23 pounds and also in the 97th percentile for height). He comfort fed as a newborn with the silent reflux.
He drinks about 27 ounces of formula per day, a 4 oz jar of food 3 times per day along with finger foods on the side. He's a big eater which is not the norm for reflux.
