Hi

Welcome and THANK-YOU!!!!!

Just trying to gather as much info as I can before my ds meets with the new GI at the end of the mnth
My son has been a medical mystery for as long as I can remember
He has been allergy tested (everything neg.), I've kept a food journal etc and I still can't figure him out

Is it really possible for an almost 3yr old to have reflux, food intolerances, seasonal allergies and LOWER GI issues?

The only test he's had is an upper GI at 5mnths which showed severe reflux (No abnormalities....he refluxed to the back of his throat after a few sips of the barium)

I'm afraid the new GI will rec testing which will traumatize him and yeild NO answers

Right now he is on clarinex, singulair, nasonex, prevacid and mirilax

He reacts to dairy, soy, corn (veggie/popped) and grapes?
Gas, b/m issues etc
The allergist we saw recently said he may have an issue with fiber....??

I'm at a loss and getting frustarted/angry
he can be the sweetest boy one minute but the next an angry, aggressive ext. hyper little man
He also looks very very pale and his eyes are very dark.....it's like Dr Jekyl/Mr Hyde...

Any thoughts??
I've heard of enterolab which tests stool for intolerances...is this something that a Dr can rec through a regular lab?

Hi, Kim,

I can sympathize with you. It is certainly possible and in your case, likely, that one unfortunate child can have a number of issues like your son seems to have. My thoughts are that you have had a number of presumably able doctors look at him and arrive at a number of conclusions. I agree with you that the new GI person will probably suggest other tests and maybe they will be negative. That at least would eliminate certain possibilities. Before tests are done, carefully ask the doctor what he/she will do if they are positive and what further thoughts are there if they are negative.

A stool test for food intolerance? I am not aware of this and sounds a bit shaky to me. Ask your GI specialist about this one.

Good luck, Dr. Olson
