Brooke is booked into to get her PH probe done tomorrow.....we have driven for 8 hours to get here...and took time off of work, but she has a cold now!
She has slight cough, maybe 5-6 times a day, a runny nose (she seems to get this every other week)

I just read the pamphlet and it says to ring them if your child has a cough, a cold or runny nose......It is midnight here so cant do right now..

What would you do??....Get it done or reschedule?
I mean they probably wont do it anyways.

I feel bad as she has been off of her prilosec for this too :(

I have changed my mind 20 times on wether to get it done or not in the past 2 weeks, and finally decided I needed to know if she was whingy because she is in pain, or wether she is just a high maintenance baby....and now this!
Maybe its an omen.

Any advice????

Also.....is getting the ph probe worth it???

Thanks gals :)

Are you off the meds Kimberley for it?

If so, go for it, it really isn't that bad and does give a lot of information on when, how long, it makes it a bit easier in terms of meds etc...

Another thing is this, she may not have a cold if she is off the meds, her reflux may be giving her cold like symptoms, they did for Parker. I remember Parker sounded really chesty when he had it and it went as soon as we were back on the meds.

Good luck with the test.

I was thinking the same thing as Scarlet. It may be the reflux causing the cold sympotms. Esepicaly since you said she gets it often. I would go in and see what they say when you get there. You have already gone so far for it at least let them check her out and see if they think it is bad.

As far as if the test is worth it, I would say yes. We did not get the clear cut answers we were hopeing for from ours, but at least I did not have to worry that I was not doing enough. It really is not as bad as it seems. It was very anoying for us, but Sebastian did not mind it at all.

Good luch with whatever you decide and let us know how it all goes.

Mmmm....if it is a little cough/nose thing...I would go for it, since you are scheduled and she has been OFF meds
if it gets worse,,,fever etc...call the GI
If u call the hospital, they may cancel just based on the fact you called saying Brooke has a cold...

Let us know

I rang before we went, and they said since I had come so far to come in.....So I did, and they said Brooke was ok to go ahead........

The nurse put it in within 60 seconds, and Brooke was great...I sooo thought she would chuck a wobbly as she hates anyone touching her face or arms/hands...even me......so I was overjoyed she handled it so well.
It was actually fuuny, each time they put something near her face, tape to hold the tube, the tube etc etc...she kept opening her mouth...she hadn't had her lunch so she must of thought she was entitled to something ROFL!!!!!

The only part she did not like is when they did the x-ray to make sure it was in the right place...they had to stretch her arms over her head, and she cracked it, but I was able to calm her within a few minutes.

She has adjusted well, and has been in bed for the night since 8pm (its now 10.30pm)....she so wants to grab the wires and touch the monitor.......she wants everything at the moment, and she wants it NOW! hehehe.

I have been watching the PH level........and for the most part it is over 5.....it dips down to below 3 when the spews, but whos wouldn't when they are sicking up.
The only thing I did notice is.......when she was asleep in bed tonight, when she wasfirst asleep, it was between 3 and 4......which is the lowest its been alll day, but of course she is lying pretty flat. We never have trouble with Brooke at night though, waking etc etc...she sleeps right through.

At the times when she is whingy, and I was worried she was in pain from reflux, the probe says she is at 6 or higher!!!.......

I have a feeling that......it is going to come back that her reflux is not so bad, and when on meds she is probably doind great...except for the vomiting, at least 50 times a day :(

I guess when she whinges she is whinging about other things...lol.......Althoo I do know for the first 3 months of her life, when she was crying and screaming all day...that she WAS in severe apin, I dont need a PH probe to tell me that.

Anyways...I am hoping Brooke is on the improve, and of course I am only speculating with the above, as they have to analyse everything yet, and the GI will tell me the results on Monday....and I will update everyone staright away.

I am soooo happy I went ahead with this, and it was so not bad........I was a worried wreck for nothing.

I am glad it went so well. I know how you feel. I thougth for sure Sebastian would go crazy when the put it in. He wont even let me wipe his nose with out pitching a fit. I guess they are always better when it is not Mom.

I hope she continues to do well with it and you get some good info.
