ok just some quick questions for some of you been there done that moms....what do the numbers mean? whats good and whats bad? i know when they put it in it was at 7.5, when he drinks breastmilk it goes up to 8-9, and when he drinks formula it goes down to a 2-3 or 4. and most of the night it has hovered between 3-5. is that bad or good?

also, he has been HORRIBLY congested since they put it in, and coughing like crazy, spitting up lots of clear stuff. is that normal?

Amy, the ph scale is based on the numbers from 0-14 anything above 0 to 7 is acidic, 7 is neautral and 7.1-14 is basic.

With a ph probe, they generally look at how many times the ph goes below 4 as this is acidic enough for it to hurt them, the other thing they will look at is how long it stays there for.

They then work this out as a number over time and this is there diagnosis.

It seems to me that Aaron is doing really well on breastmilk as it isn't affecting the acid.

I wouldn't take too much in at this time, cause they correlate it over the 24 hours, so it is really hard to say.

With the congestion, Parker was congested, but I think it was mainly due to being off meds, once we went back on the congestion got better.

Rachel said it all! :-)

How is Aaron doing with the probe? Were you able to get him to sleep/stop pulling it out last night? :-(

Sam screamed the entire time the probe was in, it was very irritating for him. sounds like Aaron is tolerating it a bit better. When does it come out?

Looks like you've got more ammo to keep on nursing, Amy!

I was going to say what Becky said re: nursing. From what Rachel said re: numbers...looks like nursing is the best thing for him now (as it typically is and I know you know that, it's trying to convince some moronic doctors who are suggesting otherwise.)
