:angryfir: Ava and I went to the Y tonite, and I had a great workout, but it was the Tot Lot that has me a little distressed (ok, more than a little, I'm fuming!)
Ava's poor little butt is absolutely raw, looks like a burn w/ major blisters, and she's pooped 3x again today and really irritated it even more than it was last nite. When I was done w/ my workout and went in to get her, I was *overwhelmed* by the smell of poop when I opened the door. She saw me and came crawling over, screaming, and the woman (middle-aged, not one of the high school girls, new, I had never seen her before), handed her to me. Right then, it was completely obvious that Ava was the offender. I didn't know how long it had been, and trying to give her the benefit of the doubt in case it had just happened, we went to the locker room for a change. It must have happened right when I dropped her off, and they ignored it, b/c it was caked and dried on her tush, and I could have used a pressure cleaner to get it off. Several screaming minutes later, when I got down to bare skin, I was shocked to see how much worse it looked...no wonder she sceamed like I was rubbing steel wool across it!
It looks awful, and I feel so bad for her! So here's my question: do I put in a complaint? They didn't know that Ava already had a tender tush (putting it mildly!), but don't you think a baby should be changed if they poop? I do! I'm so mad, but I can't fault them for not knowing. However, I think that if a baby poops, they should be changed, simple concept. What if I had decided to be ambitious, and worked out for 2 hours (not that that would happen, but...)?
So, on to my experiment...I googled the normal ph of poo, 7.0-7.5. I think to burn the skin like that, it has to be very acidic, and that's such a tender, sensitive area! My mom works in the lab at the hospital, so I'm having her bring me some ph test strips tomorrow am so I can test Ava, so I can see for myself. I found several diseases linked to fecal ph (no, I'm not self-diagnosing), and I'm just really interested to see if my child is pooping battery acid. Kinda gross, but inquiring moms want to know!
Sorry this was so long, I didn't mean to rant and rave that much! I will post the results of the "Ava Experiment" tomorrow!
