Hi-
My GI doctor has asked us to take Sarah off all meds for two weeks before the scope. He left us an email and now he is on vacation so I can't ask him about it. I am very scared to do this. Has anyone else had to do this

If I remember right, we did not take Allie off of any meds before her scope. I know we did for 3 days before her ph probe, but not the scope. We just couldn't feed her 4 hours beforehand. Does he have another doc in his practice you can talk to? I would have to believe if you paged him, there would be someone else on call while he is out.

Our GI had us keep James on his Prevacid for the scope and probe because he wanted to see if the Prevacid was actually working and if it had healed James' inflamed esophagus. That was my greatest fear about all the testing and thank goodness we did not have to go off the meds. Come to find out it wasn't James' reflux bothering him, but the unknown egg allergy... so I was really glad that we stayed on the meds.

I hope maybe someone at your GI's office can help you with this... two weeks is a long time. Please let us know what you find out.

We did no meds the morning of the scope. But that was it.

Connor was on his meds for the scope too. He just couldn't eat for like 4 hours or something like that. I would try to talk to the Dr. that's covering while yours is out of town. I would hate to have to take him of his meds and then wait for them to kick in again. Keep us posted!

The GI doc talked possible scope to us, and he likes kids to be off meds for 2weeks before the scope.

I am confused as to why a doc would want a baby off meds for a scope. My understanding is that the scope is to evaluate if any damage is being done by the reflux or if the meds are helping heal/prevent damage. I can see for the PH probe where they are measuring acid levels and also want too see how much they are refluxing but I don't understand how this helps with the endoscopy.

I don't get it either, but that's what the little instruction sheet said.
Maybe some one here will have some kind of explanation why

I talked with the GI fellow and the other doctor on call and they said to do what Dr Ament told us to do. SO today I am taking her off all meds! I'm frreaking out but I told them if she starts getting really bad and refusing to eat completely I will restart them. Wish me luck
