Rachel goes Wed 8/9 for a video swallow. They are also going to do the upper gi if there is time (if someone cancled) otherwise we have to go back on the 14th for that. I was wondering what all happens? What do they do, how will my dd act, should I take her special doggy? And any other helpful advise?
Thanks

LeAnn, definitely take the special doggy! Also bring a few toys or other things that might distract her. How old is Rachel?
Noah has never had a video swallow, so I can't offer any experience there, but I know someone will chime in with info for you .
The upper GI *should* be very simple. Rachel will be placed on a table and given a bottle of barium to drink. They doctor and nurses will guide you as to when to feed, when to stop, and when to start again. The doctor will watch the formula go down via a TV-like monitor. Then, you will be sent to a waiting room for 1/2 hour or so, and then they will take *more* pictures to see how the emptying is coming along. Then, the same thing is done at 1 hour.
For most, the hardest part is the fasting that morning. Bring a pacifier and anything else that will help keep her calm when she is hungry. Noah has never really wanted his bottle, so he didn't even care that he was missing a meal .
Good luck, and please keep us posted!

Sorry, I need to take time and have a signature made. Rachel is 14 mths. My mom is going with me so I don't have to drive in heavy traffic and fight with a hungry & unhappy baby. Rachel took after her daddy when she is hungry you better feed her now.
