Hi there,
Well, finally, my son is being admitted overnight for some investigations. They will definitely do a Ph probe. I just feel so anxious that
a) my son looks so healthy and the staff will all think I'm nuts!
b) like someone else said, I'm worried that the results will all be normal (Crazy to wish that your child should have something wrong), but I just want an explanation for why he has been as he is for the last 10 mths. If there's something wrong, then you can fix it or try to, but if there's nothing to fix, then you're left feeling totally confused and like a fraud.
c) my main issue is with my son's "rattle" noise when he breathes in deeply and I bet they won't be able to hear it when they examine him, coz it comes and goes. My second issue is that his sleep is very disturbed and I'm wondering how on earth is he going to sleep in a ward full of babies. If he doesn't sleep a wink all night, surely the ph probe reading can hardly be accurate coz it won't be a representation of what goes on at home.

I know, I'm just worrying.....
Love Beth

All totally normal concerns! Here's a warning right now: sleep in the hospital is next to impossible! Ava didn't go down until almost midnight at our last probe, and was then up every 45 min to an hour. Keep an eye on his monitor "purse", when I pushed a button, ours showed me the ph level at the time, and it was really interesting. Along with what they asked me to record (eating, sleeping, wakings, symptoms), I kept a log of my own of when she was having episodes, and it was very interesting to see the correlation btwn the major drop in ph and her waking up.

Ava looks ok too (except for her MAJOR bags and dark circles under her eyes), so I also thought that they'd think I was nuts, but the probe definitely showed different. Make sure to let the nurses on your shift know all about the breathing troubles so they can watch for it, and make sure you keep a little log of it yourself too.

It's going to be a long night, but hang in there!

Beth I hope all goes well and you get some answers. I understand what it is like to put the child through tests and not get any answers. For so long all we ever heard about Shae-Lynne was she was failure to thrive. Very frustrating. Best wishes

I wish you all the best and hope that you get some answers, Beth! When are you guys being admitted?

Hi there, those are totally valid things to worry about. I remember thinking I was nuts to want a diagnosis. But, I think that is when you truly do have a sick kid and want some help. When we took Eli in for several tests you should have seen me crying with joy and praising God when they told me they found something wrong, I was glad to know so we could get him the help he needs.

I hope it all goes smoothly and you guys find what you need to get the help you need. Keep us posted!

 Hugs Beth, I just wanted to wish you guys the best tomorrow! I hope everything goes smoothly and you get some answers. My DS doesn't look like anythings wrong with him either other than being a little thin but nothing out of the ordinary so I understand what you mean. People often don't believe me when I tell them Connor cries all the time because he smiles at everyone (LOL) Please keep us posted on how everything goes!!!!

I felt the same as you beth, please don't worry what other people say and think, they are not you and do not have to go through this so how would they understand. Good luck with the probe I hope they can start to figure some things out for you guys!

I hope everything goes well with the probe today/tonight. I was luck that Sebastian got to be at home with his. At least at the hospital somone will be there if you have any problems or questions.

You may not get the answers you are looking for, but at least you are trying. I am glad we did the test even if it gave me more questions then answers. At least I know that he does not have huge amounts of acid burning him all the time.
Good luck, and let us know how it all goes.

Here's a pic of Ava during her probe in June:

I forgot to post this in my first reply, thought you might want to see a pic.

Good luck!
