When I put Sebastian down for a nap with his ph probe it ended up getting wrapped around his neck three times! I am worried about him tonight. I called the respiratory therapist number they gave me and his only advice was that I could shorten the wire some by wrapping it up and taping it. I don’t think I can get it short enough to eliminate the risk of him getting it around his neck.
I am putting him in the pac and play in our room tonight. This way he will have less room to roll around and he will be close enough for me to check on him a lot.
I was wondering if any of you who have had a ph probe have had this problem, or if anyone has any creative ideas to make him safer. I am never going to be able to relax and fall asleep tonight.

How scarey, Katie!
I hope tonight goes well and you can get some sleep!

{{{HUGS}}} Katey. How is he doing with it in, other than the sleeping issues?
I slept on my back that night, and then I placed Noah right next to my side with my arm around him, so that his neck was resting on top of my arm right by my shoulder. Then we put the box up above Noah between my pillow and dh's. I think we kind of tucked the wire under one of our pillows to reduce the slack. We actually slept okay like this. When Noah napped, I left his bedroom door open and I was just completely silent for the hour or two. But, I could constantly look in and see how he was doing without being noisy while opening the door.
I hope this helps and that the rest of the time flies by!
I was also going to suggest tucking it under the pillow. That's what we do with Shae's NG tube and it's been working fine. Good luck, that's very scary!!!

That's really scary! We did ours in the hospital after a ugi endoscopy (one-stop shopping, if you will!), and since it's impossible for me to sleep in a hospital, I was pretty much up all night checking on her anyway. Good luck, and try to get some rest, I know it's hard, and since I'm up all night anyway, I'll be thinking about you!

Thanks guys. I wish I could have him sleep with me I would feel a lot better with him close. Unfortunately he is not at all a cuddly baby and he refuses to sleep with us. He just plays until he gets really tried and starts to cry until you put him in his own bed.
I put him in the pac and play near the bed. I tried putting pillows in to make less room for him to roll around, but when I checked on him five minutes latter he had the pillows on top of himself and he was rolling back and forth. He already had the wire around his neck. I have it shorter now so I don’t think it can get around very tight.
I put a night light by his bed so I will just have to check on him a lot during the night. I will be so glad to get that thing out in the morning and get back to normal. He has actually done pretty well with it. He is just so active I have had to follow him around all day. I felt like I was walking a little puppy. At least he has not been trying to pull it out. He seems to have forgotten it is even there.

I ran into the same problem too, and ended up putting all the extra tube and computer in his backpack and making him wear it all night. He's a tummy sleeper so it worked out pretty well.
Good luck

How scary! Hopefully he won't be able to do it again since you fixed it and you all can get some sleep!

Is there any way you can tape it to him with surgical tape so it's not up by his face and neck...KWIM
Tape the slack down his body so the slack is by his legs.. I don't know if the possible or not?
