It's a signed sentence, but a sentence nonetheless!

Eat more. Two words, two signs put together.

I'm so happy I could burst! :yahoo:

Bonnie ... Catherine's hearing is perfect. She can't talk so we're starting to teach her signs. She's picking them up. In the three weeks since we started, she has a consistently used vocabulary of four signs -- eat, more, sleep (night-night) and open. Her SLP also showed her "cookie" (not that she knows what that is!), "in" and "out" yesterday. We don't have much opportunity to use those words so she may take longer to learn them.

Bonnie...you missed it girlfriend...a lot of mom's use baby signs you can start from 6-10 months....purpose: in order to communicate early...to avoid a fussy baby. Check out this site http://www.signingbaby.com/main/ also a full list of signs here http://commtechlab.msu.edu/sites/aslweb/browser.htm I'm doing it with Cameron. All babies can sign before speaking..if taught. Plus Catherine is just a little late speaking so this is also why Lesley's using sign language. I'm pretty sure she hears perfectly..(I hope I'm not mistaken) Lesley??

In any case...it's a big trend these days....I'm surprised you haven't heard of it. :smt017 i still love you though..:P

She also drank from a straw for the first time today!!! Actually, it was the first time I ever offered her one. We went to story time at a local bookstore this morning, and the store had juice boxes as part of the refreshments. It took a few minutes to get the hang of it, and then she drained the thing!

I am plunking Iain down next to Catherine so she can teach him the straw trick, ok?! Iain is doing well but we could use some of Catherine's skills here! lol

She is picking the signs up fast Lesley. Sometimes it takes a month or more for children to cotton on to signing let alone know and use signs within 3 weeks. You should be bursting with pride.

Lesley,

What exciting news about Catherine and her sentence. Signs do count! Isn't it just the most wonderful thing to see you little on signing? James is still doing "more" and "all done" and I just love it. I am so glad to hear Catherine is catching on to signing so quick... that really is a good thing. Jessie caught on quick to signing and before we knew we had actual words coming out of her.

Also great news on the straw. WTG Catherine!
