Austin will have Endoscopy done on July 27th. He will be exactly 4 month old or 2 month adjusted that day. I am not looking forward to the fasting at all. He is only taking 2.5 oz of milk and still eating every 2.5 hours.
What can they tell from the Endoscopy?
Thanks,
Anissa

Hi,
Allie had a scope at exaclty 4 months of age. Looking back, I didn't want to do it but we did it to rule out ulcers.
It's rough, I won't try to say it wasn't. As far as fasting, they told us that as long as she didn't eat for 4 hours prior then we were good. Is that what they are telling you? If not, I would call and talk to the doc as that is the standard these days.
Also, the good part was that they didn't give her an IV until they put her out with the local anesthetic. However, seeing her laying there limp on the table made me break down crying. I made DH go in with her when they put her out and he came out crying. She was very afraid and squirmed and screamed until she went under.
After they finally got the IV in and did the general anesthesia, it was only about 10 minutes until they told us that they were done. Then we had to wait for to wake up. What's really hard is that the kids get pretty upset when they wake up and their voice is hoarse from having a tube put down their throat. It took Allie quite a while to calm down after waking up.
I hope this has been helpful in preparing you for what to expect. It was not a pleasant experience, but it was quick and relatively risk free.
Good luck and let us know how it goes. I got cold feet at the last minute and almost called it off.

Our experience was much the same...only B's 'scope was scheduled for first thing in the morning and she wasn't allowed any fluids after midnight the night before. It really was hard. :-(
In addition to being hoarse after the 'scope, B was very, very gassy and distended--which we were told is normal. Her little tummy was rock hard and she was so uncomfortable; however, this passed after awhile and all was fine.
I think the 'scope will show any inflammation/damage to the esophagas/stomach, if they do biopsies, it can tell if there are any food allergies and, if they're checking for something like Celiac (as they were with B), it can show that, too. I'm sure there's more the 'scope can check for and I'm sure other moms who've been through it can give even more info.
It really does go very quickly. Please let us know how it goes!

He has to be at the hospital at 7 AM, they will do it at 9 AM. The GI said he can have only clear liquid after mid night and cannot have anything after 5 AM. I guess we have to go and buy some pedialyte and juice. It just break my heart to see him hungry and have to do the procedure. I almost call it off as well.
Thanks for answering my question. I will let you all know how it goes.
